Both Bayonetta 1 and 2 are wonderful action games, and each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Among other action games Bayonetta is it's own beast, so if you've played Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry it's gonna take some adjustment. I was a huge DMC fan growing up, but these days if you asked me which I preferred I would definitely say Bayonetta. Expect a good time, for both games, and expect to have a good time for a long time, because both games are packed with content to keep you coming back and mastering each entry's combat systems. Between the two I prefer the second game for gameplay and design, but the first game does have a better narrative.

One of the best action games of all time.
Easy to pick up, very hard to master. I have over 200 hours in both games, and I'm still working my way to all the Platinum trophies, without save scumming on every hit.
Play Normal for 1.
Play 3rd climax for 2, assuming you've beaten 1 on above normal.
Buy Bat Within early.
Learn dodge offset before you get to hard mode.
Feel free to look up a guide on the second playthrough for all the secrets, chances are you'll miss loads of great stuff the first time around.

A really nice detail I liked in the first Bayonetta was that if you heavily damaged a Joy some times it wouldn't show the whole torture animation because it would be too gory.

Thats not Fortitudo, that was just an angel that took on Fortitudo's appearance. On the laguna description or somewhere else says that angels look upon the cardinal virtues and like to imitate them, or something like that.

Bayo was asleep for like 500 years. You actually see the past Bayo and the past Jeanne just after present Bayo returns with Balder to the present. It's more likely that the demons don't care if the summoner is from another time as long as is the same person.
Balder never sumoned Fortitudo in the present, at which point Fortitudo already betrayed him in the past and was killed by Bayonetta in the present.
