Nothing special really jumps out it was just a funner time to be playing imo. More interesting as well, people were dicks to most of the randoms they met ingame. Scammers, PKers trying to lure noobs to the wildy, white knights reporting you for anything they could, keyboard warriors who'd give you a mouthful if you walked up in the same ore patch they were mining. Sounds like a horrible place but eh, it had a wild west kinda feeling. I also miss the mass trade mobs on W1/2, the showoff line in varrock sqaure and PK banter in edgeville.
Oh well, shit comes to an end eventually. OSRS was neat when it first dropped but with all the changes..just not for me.

I think it's also partly just the era of gaming it was in. There were assholes in gow but you mostly never had to deal with them because the host would boot them for being a dick. Actually I think thats what made it so great, every game essentially had an active admin/mod who acted as arbiter.

its because gears didnt need any more action and violence than it did. the animations and mechanics were solid, the characters cussed, and the gore and blood was there. all that was left was players having fun with it instead of needing to vent out frustration. gears is awesome like that, so sorry to pcucks and sonyggers who missed out on such an experience.

Anyway, we did this weird ritual thing where we were to sacrifice a virgin to the train on Tyro Station. lol I can't remember WHY we were doing it, but the train would wreck everyone with one kill and I think our line of thinking was that if we appeased the god (the train), he would take mercy on us during our clan matches.
Well... our clan leader, Tim, was a virgin and we always gave him shit about it. I think he was "waiting for marriage" or some gay shit. We ended up rehearsing the ritual and sacrificed him to it,

This was the only perfectly balanced game I ever played, until the developers tried to "balance" the game. Forums were great, people's individual forum hubs were great, people were great because everyone was a chuuni loser, and there was no such this as "lucksacking".

Honestly, I miss the vanilla wow community and the some of the guilds I was in during the early days.
I'm not really social in video games anymore. I don't like the trend of just matchmaking and being thrown in to a group and having to be social. It was a lot easier when you just met people in the game and then could choose to group up.
I'm not completely socially inept in real life, but in video games it tends to give me anxiety.

Yeah I met some really cool people that way, especially running lower level dungeons when leveling up new characters. It was also cool to be just talking shit with people in local, getting along and deciding to do some runs together, it just felt more authentic.

I didn't get Dragon's Dogma until after Dark Arisen but /ddg/ made my experience so great. People were always so helpful. Everyone would always rent each others' pawn, give advice about training pawns, or giving new players better gear. They were such a nice community when I joined, I really miss it.It's too bad I started playing Dragon's Crown right after their general died
