>You have a lterally unlimited universe to explore with a literally unlimited amount of randomly generated planets to find. That means if you just look hard enough you'll literally find any planet you can think of. Always wanted a GTA San Andreas with a life size planet sized map? In No Man's Sky there is. Somewhere. Do you want a planet full of nude nymphomaniac preteens all craving cock? In No Man's Sky there is. Somewhere. Do you want a plkanet where Gabe Newell wasn't a hack and actually developed Half Life 3? In No Man's Sky there is. If you can find it.

I know "endless possibilities" is a buzz word thrown around a lot these days but in this game the possibilities truly are endless. Literally.

watch the no life simulator tank.

They will never truly be able to create a actual randomly generated environment.

Not even reality is that random, if you actually think about it. A vast number of variables and parameters must be in place just for life to exist, let alone flourish.

Not to mention that the idea of random generation in gaming today is a joke and despite the term's usage is quite frankly a buzzword in it's entirety. Used to garner hype.

Until you have machines processing hundreds if not thousands of terabytes in fractions of a second it will not truly be random.

I remember spore and mass effect promising explorable galaxies. And my doubts about those promises were confirmed at playing them, in the same moment realizing the fact of just how vast a task making randomly generating galaxies and planets really is.

TL;DR None of the knuckle heads in this generation of gaming have the cunning and wit to pull that off. Let alone have the balls to undertake such a task. Unless ofcourse you're a fuckn dumbass that can't predict how foolish it is to brashly attempt without meditating on it.

And you shills willing to buy it only show that people are still just as gullible as ever.

Except they're not.
None of those variables play into planet generation.
It's a universe of empty fucking random planets of different colours, shapes, and sizes.

Anyone in the development field could create an algorithm to procedurally generate random environments.

There is nothing special about this game.
It's even worse that it's single player and they tried to make it seem like an MMO.

If they could incorporate some fucking depth and Survival game elements into the game and then host one mega-server with all players in the same universe then it *might* have had potential.

Sometimes I wonder if Sean Murray thinks just going planet to planet will be enough to satisfy people nowadays. If they don't add a co-op multiplayer feature to play with our friends then our interest will drop within the first 2 weeks. If we can't create factions and pilot a HUGE mothership then people will be turned off.

The game should provide a large arsenal of weapons and gadgets. Why can't we be capture creatures and send them back to mothership for data collection and experiments? Why can't we mutate animals to alter the food chain? No hunter gatherer tribes? No civilization anywhere on the surface except for a few bases? And why no base building?

Starcitizen is shaping up just fine. It's delivering on its promises, extremely slowly. I'm okay with this and have made my peace. I've put about 22hrs into the game up to this point.

It will be great when it's finished and ready.

The problem with No Man's Sky and a lot of people of hating it is the fact that Sean, the main "advertiser" for the game has released so little information between so many different outlets up until IGN First, even then it's still not a lot. So people who just take a quick glance and don't really understand what it is and think it's a walking simulator. The information is spread out fucking everywhere in tiny tidbits is goddamn annoying.

Thankfully, leddit kinda summed it all up for any anon who's curious about the game.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/wiki/archive

https://repo.nmsdb.info/

https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4didkh/what_do_you_do_in_no_mans_sky_and_other_questions/

Sean has also purposefully hidden a lot of stuff of the game because he wants it to be a surprise for the players.

I'm not exactly hyped, but I do think calling it a walking simulator is not really a good description.

Spore did the same thing on the galactic level. All different atmospheres, life forms/barren, weather, color, materials, pathways to neighboring planets and star systems.

This sound like it's already been done and if it's the game's main selling point, it's going to be even more shallow that Spore.

Goal: Get to the center of the universe

Gameplay loop is collecting resources, trading, discovering things and turning those discoveries in for dosh all so you can upgrade your ship, suit and mining tool that doubles as a gun. The upgrades are needed because planets and general system will become more 'strange' and difficult the closer you get to the center of the universe

There's also factions and NPCs that you need to learn their language through monoliths you find on planets to interact with more proficiently I think

You're starting to make it sound pretty cool but for what reason are you trying to get to the center of the universe? Is there some kind of plot? I've seen the space battles and stuff but do those hold any sort of importance to the plot if you help a side win? Is there ground combat?

1 whole planet to explore, it's too big for you to even completely explore in a rational amount of time.
Now imagine 1000 of those planets
Now times those 1000 planets by 1000
Now you have a million plants
Now times a million planets by 1000
Now you have a billion planets.
Times that by 1000 again
Now you have a trillion planets holy shit. But still that's only a fraction of a percent of the game.
Now times the trillion planets by 1000
Now you have a quadrillion planets
Times it by 1000 AGAIN.
You now have 1 quintillion planets.
Now do all that again 18 times and you have almost as many planets in the game

That's actually really disappointing. It'd be really fun to fuck around in this vast ass universe with a bunch of strangers. Something I'm still not convinced of though is how "infinite" it really is. Sure there will be 5 billion planets and what not but how different will they actually be? How fast can you move on land and in your ship. It'd be retarded to give the player a sandbox that large and not give them insane movement speed to compensate.
