Correct me if I'm wrong, but before the release there were no videos suggesting:

>That landing on a planet and leaving your ship to walk around, as your creature, had ever been removed (only to later be reinstated as DLC)

>That the ocean stage had been removed
I mean with this game they had basically showcased and assured that all these features had been in the game
Then they removed over half of the features that made the game appealing, without making any mention of it, and then also implemented this draconian "you can only install it 3 times ever" DCMA without telling anybody
And when it released it was a shitstorm of "what the hell is this shit" from gamers, as well as a world-wide class action lawsuit against EA for their DRM+DMCA which you couldn't remove from your computer unless you reformatted it.
If you want to know why devs and publishers get away with so much shit these days, it is solely because of this game.

The whole point of the game that it's content is procedurally generated by given algorythms. Devs claim it to be a whole fucking unique universe, however it's very likely to become a bunch of generic planets created out of a set of templates, chosen randomly. To write a programm which can actually be creative and manipulate solely with 3d assets to make content means to solve on of today's most important problem in computer science and machine learning.

I had expectations when it was first announced because Bioware actually had a decent track record at that point. But it looked bad from the first screenshots that got released, 29:30 brought it all crashing down, and it just got worse and worse from there.

No matter how you feel about Bioware, they succeeded in making a Universe that you just wanted to be and stay immersed in at all times. Backstories of the Races, planets, groups were actually very well done despite several retcons/changes between each game....The Mass Effect universe was just great and the Trilogy had the potential to be on the greatest Sci-Fi franchises in media and even the lesser story of ME2 didnt kill that. It was the terrible decisions and story killing aspects of ME3. Sure, its gameplay was great, some RPG elements came back which was nice, but overall the love and interest in Mass Effect was because of its universe and story and ME3 completely destroyed that.

It was supposed to be God: The Video game with many possibilities, the whole point was to evolve your creature, so there would have been many features that show how far they're coming with intelligence(like being able to pick and choose to drag or carry meat) the creature creator was gimped so bad, initially you'd build a creature that its stats were all based on the bone structure instead of adding shit on it(for instance making the arms bigger would make it stronger) but it ended up being all cosmetic, and in the end every stage felt like a watered down version of a better game. Also the Space stage was fucking awful and the end reward was pretty terrible

As much as I hated Diablo 3 Hellgate London was more dissapointing because it had actual Diablo 2 devs working for it. D3 had warning bells from the auction house, skill system they were showcasing and shitty wow artstyle.
A lot of the concepts were fun and the basic gameplay had some merits to it but fuuuuuuck.
