Meanwhile SH4 is a good game which tried to play around with the already a bit stale formula of SH games and did so in a great way. The story is great (Henry is NOT the protagonist, it's Walter so don't even start with this shit) and interesting and the enemies are all well designed with the sound being amazing.
Yes, the hospital felt more like a "let's take these unused artworks and put them in each room so that each room has something else fucked up in it" and some the backtracking could've been done more elaborately (albeit you spent in every area the same amount of time as you would in the old games, this time it's just split in two parts) but it was a good game.

Half the atmosphere is the music, which IS good.
Akira Yamaoka did the music for Homecoming and all the others except Downpour. He's fantastic.
The enemies are nonsensical. Not in the way that SH2 does it where the enemies make no literal sense but they can be traced back to abstract fears of James. Instead they have no reason to their existing.
Past the music and a couple decent spooky moments you get awful combat that you can't avoid, a predictable mystery and a cringe-worth performance of VA's who all knew the game was shit from day-one.

I really liked it, except for combat. Looked great on PC. Music felt uninspired.
Then again, I like it, when they have a different take on an established series.

Y'know, there is a cool idea behind having Pyramid Head in every Silent Hill game. It lends to the idea that Silent Hill is some horrible location that Pyramid Head lords over to punish those stupid enough to enter.
It shits all over SH2 though (and since he wasn't in most the other SH games my headcannon wouldn't make sense anyways) but if you're going to destroy the legacy of such an excellent series you can retcon it to be canonically interesting
Instead he's just there with no real explanation or connection to the rest of the plot. Does he ever even get any sort of resolution in Homecoming or does he just stop showing up at a certain point?
