You gotta beat the game to unlock the hard mode but the bosses have more health, do more damage, and have trickier patterns.
For example on normal a boss shoots out a laser and sweeps the screen with it, increasing in speed. All you have to do is dodge through the laser.
On hard it shoots out 2 lasers close together, while also making shockwaves that come towards you as you dodge the laser. You have to make quicker more precise dodges

I disagree. A lot of the mechanics feel like you were supposed to recognize them and see how they were changed.
Also the tutorial boss completely skips the tutorial segment, and feels like a very real boss fight. None of the bosses necessarily feel like they're getting progressively harder as you advance, but rather they're all the same difficulty with new mechanics.
In a sense, it really is supposed to be NG+ challenge mode.

There are a few parts where you can go to a different part of the segment and get some extra dialogue from the voice. But for the most part, no.
Like walking up to the house door after defeating the hand, going back to the prison room after beating the chain, going behind the tree before fighting the song, ect.

Use your gun more, when he does any sort of charge attack, pellet him with shots while dodging.
in most stages he'll start with a kinda super attack, during this time if you're quick you can hit him with a charge slash attack right after he does it for maximum damage.
Also learn to parry right, when he attacks you in the early stages think of it as practice, because his "last attack" is something like a 20 hit barrage that you need to parry.

How hard is it to S Rank Furier difficulty?
I managed to S Rank Furi difficulty on my 2nd playthrough of the game even though I skipped The Star and hot hit a couple hundred times but just the first boss on Furier seemed like an absolutely massivie difficulty spike.

I didn't realise until Furier that the Line's pillars don't constantly shoot stuff at you, they just retaliate. Made it much easier because you can reposition yourself before it gets difficult.

I thought this was an action game but it isn't. It's a survival game. Over time the fights become really stiff and you don't get to do much fighting just dodging and throwing in the occasional damage.

I'd say the Scale is actually the third hardest boss for me, his bullet hell is a big meme, his attacks muddle up your screen if you get hit by him, and he changes up his attacks a LOT in melee mode which most other bosses don't change that much
