this games open world is so polished
how did they do it ?
>>
nothing pesky to render like interesting stuff
>>
>>344502363
polished ?
what do you mean ?
>>
100's of employees and millions of dollars
>>
>>344502363

They started with some of the structuring they had already worked on with Grand Theft Auto 4, so it wasn't like they were starting from scratch. Also, they took like 5 years to make the game and their publisher gave them a FUCKING GIGANTIC budget, so it's so surprise that they worked some small miracles
>>
Budget + attention to detail

will Red Dead 3 blow away the competition once again?
>>

I only wish that there was a lot more interiors but I'm surprised how well it looked in first person, good textures.
>>

by filling it with nothing.

Is Niko Bellic from gta 4 dead ?
>>
>>344504148
Even though it ran terribly I am still surprised they even got it to run at all on last gen.

PC version is where they perfected it.
>>
>>344505316
You see him standing in the background of an FIB mission. So no.
>>
GTA V was several steps forward, and a few steps backwards.
>>
>>344504148
keep in mind that the old republic had $100 million less for budget than GTA V and it fucking tanked. GTA V might be the best developed video game to date
>>
because the majority of the map is a large patch of fucking nothing.
>>
>>344506083
every open world game has empty space, GTA V's is far prettier though
>>
>>344504431
the wolfman easter egg was added fairly recently in an update
>>
>>344506048
Not really. Swtor might have tanked player count after launch but in the last 5 years it has picked up a ton of players. In is one of EAs biggest money makers and one of the biggest MMOs out there now days. 3rd most profitable MMO behind WoW and linage.
>>
>>344502363
they didn't the maps shit, there's barely anything to do and 60% of the map is taken up by enough mountains to give todd howard a run for his money
>>
>>344505936
why are you making stuff up?
Niko is at most referenced by other characters and featured in an easter egg or two
if I remember correctly Lester says he's gone "quiet", so he either died or stopped being a high-level criminal

there's nothing proving about if he's alive or not
>>
>>344502363
they put a memer in charge of the story so the serious boys could get to work elsewhere
>>
GTA V is still the most technically impressive game of all time. are other devs just lazy as fuck?
>>
>>344507282
other devs keep people in positions on counta being "friends" (see bethesda)
>>
Fucking huge labor force
Fucking huge amount of money

$265,000,000 spent on development and marketing.
>>
>>344505094
>But rockstar cheats anyway
What do you mean? Genuinely curious.
>>
>let's make a modern remake of III
>now let's make sequel like we did with VC
>modern Miami sucks tho, what about LA?
>guys, what if we take old VC map and COMBINE two islands into one huge chunk and make it BIG AF??
>>
>>344505045
thats not the development team size, it were 350 people actually who made the game with code writing and shit
>>
>>344504431
>>344502363
polished? in the last gen version there was floating objects, floating textures and large sections of wall you can walk through. it's probably still there, I haven't played the new version much.
>>
>>344511079
>COMBINE two islands into one huge chunk and make it BIG AF??
what? also did you forget about SA? if anything V is a remake of SA
>>
>>344504431
There's hardly anything to do in V.
IV has more/better interiors and lots of little details.

RDR was a billion times more fun and interesting than GTASHARK CARDS.

you can do jack shit in it.
And the north side is empty as fuck holy cow
The setting is soulless too.
>>
>>344514095
>the setting is soulless too
Los Angeles is undeniably one of the most interesting settings for a GTA game, and they recreated it really damn well overall
>>
>>344506431
the same could be said about gta online, tanked on launch but now more people than they ever had before

What? The world design was one of the worst things about GTA V

>let's make the city, the only part of the map that even remotely fucking matters, so small you can drive across it in two minutes
>let's make 80% of the map forest and desert nobody wants to bother with
>let's spend all this time making fucking underwater environments that don't matter

GTA IV's City is so much fucking better it's shocking.
>>
>>344515124
Liberty City is the same size friend
>>

Salton Sea Sign.jpg
2 MB, 3264x1836
>>344514897
It's a Disney theme park version of Southern California.
The Salton Sea alone is about the size of GTAV's map.
>>
>>344515219
Yet it takes much more fucking time to get where you're going, and it's not because the vehicle speed, IV's map is laid out better so traversing it doesn't take 4 fucking minutes in a slow vehicle.

V's city feels way too small.
>>
>>344515304
did you expect Rockstar to recreate the entirety of southern california 100% accurately?
>>
>>344514970
wow rockstar are just as
incompetent as capcom then
>>
>>344515373
yes.
>>
>>344515373
No? I thought their goal was to get a miniaturized version of Southern California, which they did pretty well considering the limitations.
>>
>>344515440
but GTA V is the best game of the decade excluding RDR
>>
>>344515440
GTA V ended up mediocre

Resi 6 was straight up dogshit
>>
>>344502363
By taking all the effort and budget from the writing and mission design department.

GTAV have so much potential, but the actual missions are just so fucking boring. I've tried playing through it two times and both times I just got bored out of my mind doing the missions.
>>
>>344515329
And yet it was boring as fuck driving in IV.

I pretty much took cabs everywhere because it got so boring.
>>
>>344515608
It was just as boring driving in V except even worse because the soundtrack is much worse.

>>344502363
Hardly polished, the map is incredibly small thanks to Los Santos being small as fuck and the overall environment being small little biomes.

First you're in compton, go a few streets over you're in the financial district, suddenly you're in hollywood, and over the mountain suddenly youre in wine country. Immediately after that you're in farm land and SUDDENLY you cross a road and you're in the desert. Cross this thin ass little desert and the huge ass lake you encounter the thing that takes up about 35% of the entire map which is mount chillad.

The map is undoubtedly small and I blame the raw design of the map and the fact that the mountain is so fucking huge. Biomes are incredibly small and gimmicky with rapid progression through out them. In fact if you stand in wine country, you can see the entirety of the farm land and the desert with a sudden switch from grass to sand
>>
>>344515729
But IV had the worst radio in the series.
>>
>>344515781
To be fair. Smaller maps packed to the brim is way better than large maps with fucking nothing in them.

This is the best way to do open world maps.
>>
>>344515802
lol no

SA>VC>IV>VC Stories>V>III>LC Stories
>>
>>344516058

>>344515884
I'd rather a more balanced map. I feel that the biomes of GTAV needed to be larger. Mount chillad needed to be much smaller, its actually the only geographically plausible feature of the entire map emulating almost perfectly a full fledged mountain.

Compton-areas needed to be bigger. Its actually only a few streets wide before you get dumped off into the industry sector which leads into port (you can actually see the port through the industry sector)

The desert needs to be much bigger. Make it look like a sprawling desert so that you can actually offroad effectively and not go from Sandy Shores to Grape Seed in less than a mile. Grapeseed is incredibly small for a "town"

While Wine Country takes up the entire north mountain side like it should, the decline is very brief and you'll cross wine country without even noticing it.

the rolling plains of the farm land is really short as well, theres actually a few farms that are wide enough to branch wine country with the desert all in one single property, fence to fence.

they should have made use of all these locations but quite literally theres nothing to do in the northern half of the map beyond trevor stories that don't even take you in and around that one northern town whose name escapes me.
>>
>>344516208
They were really amazing for PSP games to be honest
>>
>>344515440
i heard the management is shit there and thats why they always delay their games
>>
>>344516137
V's stations are mostly complete shit, especially the classic rock station, which is always the most important station in a GTA game.
>>
>>344516384
And IV stations weren't just mostly shit, they were totally shit.
>>
>>344516276
I also believe that if GTAV had 3 other cities like SA had, you'd feel more expansive. Traveling between cities would feel almost eventful much like SA did even though SA was actually very small it felt physically big because there were 3 elements of travel between cities and not this mess of LS taking up all the south and the rest of the map being very linear despite being so big. Theres no "I gotta go there" feeling or "I was in one place, now I'm in another" feeling.

If Los Santos was the way it was, the wine and farm areas were physically longer, either make mount chillad smaller or push it further north and make the north towns bigger to compensate for their dumb 3 block size almost like a pokemon town. Then make the desert physically longer, its extremely wide but not actually that long which makes it really easy to cross.

Insert another large city like Los Venturas up into the far right like SA and you can have the other city in the far west or north west to compensate. I guarantee while the map would be enormous and you'd feel a lot more expansive because of it. You'll also feel a sense of destination
