Playing this for the first time, what should I expect? Never played the series

Any tips?
>>
Always be on the lookout for new recruits and stars.
>>
>>344501494
Game isnt really hard to get through by itself, though recruiting everyone without a guide on your first playthrough is litterally impossible. Still get as many as you can. Some can only be recruited during a limited period of time somehwere in between the story and if you miss them they will will no longer be recruitable, others can only be recruited if you have the correct character in the party, have a animal in the party, upgraded your weapon to the highest level etc etc. So watch out for that.
>>
>what should I expect?
Great story, old school Turn Based battles, fun mini games, lots to do, great OST.
>>
I'm planning on playing suikoden 1 and suikoden 2 blind. Is that a bad idea? Will I have a better experience if I look up info beforehand so I can get the best ending or whatever?
>>
>>344505101
Played Suikoden 1 blind and I missed getting exactly one recruit to get the "good" ending. Got so pissed I downloaded a save file. Anyway, if you have time, playing blind is more enjoyable.

I'm starting Suikoden 2 now though. One thing that bothers me is how the MC from Suikoden 1 isn't mentioned by the others so far. I mean, He was a pretty big deal wasn't he?
>>
>>344501494
The perfect ending requires you to get all the non-bonus recruits so if you're playing blind you probably won't get it

Luca has the potential to shift the momentum back to him across his entire fight, and if you lose you have to start from phase 1 all over again. Prepare your asshole for him
>>
Expect boredom and terrible music in towns. 2 was better
>>
>>344505901
He'll make some appearances eventually you can recruit him but his name will probably be TcDohl unless you're playing a patched iso.
>>
>>344502218
That, do your best to get everyone.
>>
>what should I expect?
retarded ass timed quest that forces you to beat the game in under 20 real time hours to get the good ending for a character.
>>
>>344501494
You don't play Suikoden 2 first. Just play Suikoden 1 then 2, it's that simple. Do you really want to destroy a great experience?
>>
>>344507653
Oh shit, that's great to hear.I got too attached to Suikoden 1 MC that I was having a hard time liking 2's from my first hours of playing. Thanks anon.

Play the first one first. You can import your save file for benefits.

it's been couple of years ago and in a different country. funny thing is, creator wanted to make suikoden 2 as the first game but couldn't get the budget for it so he made suikoden 1 as sort of proof of concept.
>>
Look at the guide for Clive's recruitment. It's missable time limit bullshit and unless you get 100% of recruit, you won't get the best ending.
>>
> what should I expect?

boring retarded shit

japan does not produce games for people over the age of 25
and their older PS1 games are the most child-autist crap ever made

PS2 follows very close

Don't try to get all the stars on your first run, you'll need to be glued to a walkthrough and it'll spoil your experience.

>>344507536
Good thing this is 2.
>>
>>344513013
Almost all of the best songs 2 are from the original, though.

if you want the good ending, make sure you use a guide, and make sure you don't miss Clive in muse after the white deer inn.

his 20 hour limit is exaggerated. yeah sure, you won't be able to do it on your first playthrough but it's perfectly doable once you're not bumbling around.
>>
>>344514741
who wants to play a story-driven jrpg multiple times?
>>
>>344513236
I'd argue one should not try to get the good ending for his first experience
>>
Since there's like 108 characters or something should I even bother trying to catch 'em all?

And when you guys talk about a "good" ending that I won't be able to get, do you just mean the ending scene or do the missions and bosses change?
>>
>>344501494
Prepare to fall in love and then prepare for heartache. I've been waiting for Suikoden VI since the moment I finished V.

Todd has won.
>>
>>344515564
Technically you'll get an extra "boss fight" but it's mostly cinematic.
The story won't change that much, you'll just miss a couple of character exclusive side missions.

You really oughta try and experience it on your own first.
It'll only make a second, perfect (or semi perfect) run more satisfying.
>>
>>344501494
Extremely mediocre game with garbage writing and really awful music. Have fun.
>>
>>344515929
Actually, doesn't Suikoden 2 technically have more than two endings in a sense some things like whether Nanami lives or not are different?
>>
>>344515564
>>344515929
>Technically you'll get an extra "boss fight" but it's mostly cinematic.

this, but the ending is really good and experiencing it for yourself is always preferable to watching it on youtube, especially for a first playthrough. the good ending will give you a better opinion of the game/

plus you'll be missing out on the game by not catching them all anyway since that's half the point of it.
>>
>>344512294
>You can import your save file for benefits

But only if you got the best ending.
>>
>>344516119
you can import your save regardless, you're simply missing out on the main draw. some characters will still have superior gear, stats, etc because of the import.
>>
>>344501494
One of the comfiest headquarters in video game history. Well, if you recruit enough anyways. Explore, and talk to fucking everybody. The game has a shitload of collectables and characters. You're a bitch ass nigga if you don't collect all the fucking farm animals, statues, and motherfucking cooking recipes.
>>
>>344516119
Wrong. Instead of Gremio Ellie joins you. Thus, you can get the worst ending but still import the data.

>mfw collecting all blueprints, recipes and sound sets

It doesn't fucking help game US version is buggy and you should be playing EU version.
>>
>>344514741
I did it on my first playthrough. I did it on an emulator with a guide. if I wanted to talk to someone that wasn't critical to advancing the plot I would make a save state and then reloaded when I was ready to move on.

>>344515712
>replaying a 30 hour game just to see 15 minutes of new scenes
you aren't a 10 year old whose mommy ony buys 4 new games a year anymore. games get one playthrough as close to 100% as possible and then you move on to the next game in your backlog.

How long is Suikoden 2? I want to try it but I usually get bored of RPGs if they take too long and theres a lot of filler combat
