Reach barely really told a story, it was just defend this and that. You already knew the ending with your character dying. They shoehorned Cortana and the POA to try to connect to the mainline games, and you could obviously tell they made the story up after they finished the set pieces just look at the VGA trailer and compare and contrast the first cutscene. The game tries to get you to like these characters and take off their helmets but they door a poor job characterizing them except Jorge and kills them off way to quickly. "That Lone Wolf stuff stays behind" to bad most of the time I was a Lone Wolf in this game. Last but not least games butchers canon in all formats to exist.
