Alright, so just to clear thinga up this is what I've seen on the PTR. Event opens up with invasions in three zones in EC (Khaz Modan, Westfall, Hillsbrad) and Kalimdor (Northern Barrens, Azshara, and Mulgore I think).
Each invasion opens with defending the central town of the zone, which is where demons spawn. After enough are killed they stop spawning and a few big 101 Elites pop in (Three Doomlords in Westfall, Two big Mo'arg in Khaz Modan), followed by a mini-boss. These are always the same for each zone.
After the boss is down, things go to hell. Structures start spawning everywhere in the zone and you have to go around knocking them down by destroying the Crystals that are anchoring them. Also moving around are a bunch of 102 Elites that are really fucking tough. Fel Reaver is back, and pretty much 2/3 shots anyone that's not a tank.
Fill that bar, and it's a rush back to the central town for the final boss, an actual Level ?? boss that changes every time. There's quite a few, and generally each have different abilities. The nastiest I've gone against was a Doomlord who spawned balls of fire that would deal big damage AOE unless they got whacked. Burns down the entire town. As it turns out these guys shit on tanks just as much as others, but the central NPC of the zone (Saurfang in NB, Muradin in Modan, Stoutmantle in Westfall) can tank it.

For whatever reason, Melee is allowed to have 100% uptime on whatever they want, while doing superior or at least equivilent damage as ranged classes.

Killing the first boss rewards a Small Invasion Chest, killing the second rewards a Large one. Both of those phases and the zone-wide invasion reward 10 Nethershard per completion.
Each chest rewards a piece of iL700 armor. Look wise it's WoD profession gear recolored Black/Gold/Green for Legion Colors. Plate actually looks pretty great. Large Chests also have a chance to drop an iL700 weapon, along with Coalesced Fel, which can be used to give any of the weapons an 5 iL upgrade, up to 725. Each chest also gives Nethershard.
Nethershard is used with the new Illidari vendors in SW and Org, if not at the beginning then when DHs go active. Prices (In Nethershard) are as follows:
>150 for Felbat Pup (Pet)
>150 for Piece of Coalesced Fel
>200 for set 'Ensemble', unlocks invasion set for X-Mog, one set for each armor class. Not sure how it works really.
>50 for gear piece (Back, Ring, Trinket, no armor)
Generally it just takes a few runs and a bit of RNG to get a full set. Not sure how it'll change after DH and Broken Shore get patched in.

Not really. As someone who swaps between rogue and mage in raiding regularly, there's not a lot of difference in difficulty. Hunters are usually the ones who get stuck with mechanics, anyways.
Melee is way easier to play in arena and has been since WotLK because all of the mong comps are available to you and most of them require to chuck a bit of CC and then tunnel.
The only area in which I find ranged to be way better off is EBGs or zergy shit like Trashcan.

To be fair, while sometimes ranged comps can be disgustingly broken (like Godcomp right now, PMR in the past, SpLD, etc) the melee ones are always easy to play.
Seriously, if you had a friend that wasn't that good you've always been able to TSG faceroll to shoulders. It's relaxing in comparison.
The only exception might be some rogue comps, but rogues are always there for the CC. War, DK, Ret, all of them have a good tunneling time. I play 2 out of those three named classes, btw. Not trying to paint them in a bad light.

Healers are 100% getting fucked in the ass. I can't tell you for sure since I'm against randos in scrims with shitters on my team as well, but they need to cast to heal anything significantly.
Maybe this changes going forward, but I strongly suspect mongo burst is how arena will play out. Worst comes to worst, I'll switch over to my warrior or level a DH like everyone else.
If you snag one of the recent beta invites, I recommend you to give it a few minutes of testing.
Even shadow priest, which is a God 1v1 feels miserable in a 3v3 due to not being able to do much other than fakecast 10 times to get one spell off.

You haven't seen what happens when an Ele spreads his flame shock during a BG. Watching my buddy shit out chain lava bursts and gib people was pretty funny. Apparently there is no cooldown on shocks now, so you can just spread it fast and get procs.
