That was the Door to Darkness in KH1. Kh was supposed to be deep inside of it. KH1 is notorious for not quite matching up with the rest of the series.

No, the Door that opens at the end of KH1 is the Door to Darkness. Sora and Ansem don't actually know what KH contains, and this is the whole basis for Master Xehanort's plans. It's something that won't be solved until 3. This is what that one anon said about KH1 not necessarily matching up with the rest of the series/later interviews.
My theory is that ALL light in the universe is artificial and produced by people/creatures with hope; which is why people turn into heartless when they go deep into despair/hopelessness. Darkness is where everything originated but light balances it out so it doesn't consume everything again.

Here's how I saw it, Kingdom Hearts is light, but the realm it exists in is pure darkness because greater the light the longer the shadow etc. Ansem opened the door to the realm of darkness by calling on Kingdom Hearts but Kingdom Hearts deep inside the dark opened the door and burned him.

They explain pretty early on in a little story that in even the deepest darkness there's always some light. Sora manages to call out to the light that's hidden within when the Door to Darkness opens and then "Ansem" gets wrecked by it.
