Name a better d-pad.
Protip:you literally can't
>>344480164
Vita
The xbone controller's d-pad is fucking perfect for me, but I like clicky shit more than most people.
>>344480164
>clickshit
>>344480335
mah nigga
>>344480164
Sega Saturn and Nintendo DS (phat) have the best d-pads in all of creation.
The Vita and Vita slim d-pads are also choice.
I fucking despise the + shape d-pad Nintendo has been using since the DSlite/Wii. The 3DS version of it at least clicks into all eight directions but it's still awful shit which they went with for purely aesthetic reasons.
sega saturn d-pad is god tier
Regular GBA
GBA SP d-pad is way too deep in the console.
>>344480373
this
>>344480335
>>344480713
>not liking a crisp, clean click
>prefers some fluffy sponge
>you will never have a complete collection of all of the GBASP varients
>>344480164
I like the Sony Dpads.
>>344480373
That was easy.
>>344480164
Wii U's dpad fucking shitter.
>>344480924
Damn right. Rolling back and forth on a pad as smooth as butter.
It's sooooo good. Fantastic for 3D and 2D games of any genre.
>>344482525
It's the same D-pad.
n64, not even trolling
Not as good as the Saturn's, but this is still the best d-pad that MS has put out.
Why do people actually prefer d-pads? Not trolling, genuinely curious. They all feel like shit compared to a good stick, imo.
>>344485319
In games with analogue controls, yes you're right. But sometimes all a game needs is a dpad. I am more of a /vr/ guy 3bh.
>>344485319
d-pad for precision, analog stick for acceleration control, wasd for run and gunnin'.
>>344485757
Yeah I get what you mean, but when I emulated, say, a SNES game with my 360 controller I strongly prefer the feel of movement using the control stick over the original dpad, even though the controls aren't analogue. It just feels more comfortable and smooth to me, I suppose.
>>344486297
I like a clicky arcade stick but that's the opposite of what you're describing.
>>344482525
Dislike this one
>>344480164
SP is way too small, I know what you're getting at but I get arthritis just thinking about that console
>>344480846
Regular GBA is bretty damn top tier for my personal tastes but objectively I know that the design for them, with the huge plastic directionals on the thin little conductive pad, isn't /that/ great since those conductives break down easy and it's honestly rather clunky
For my money Id have to go with these guys, the d-pad is just ridiculously good it's like a dream.
>>344485319
If you're playing a game where you only need four directions the time between pushing a stick between directions is a waste of time and makes the controls feel sluggish. It's like touch screen controls, you want feedback but on a stick there is none.
>>344486297
>with my 360 controller
Well there's your problem. The Xbox 360 has objectively the worst d-pad in video game history.
>>344485319
>I started gaming with Xbox 360: the post
>>344487023
Sorry, grandpa. Not everybody could be born in the 80s like you were.
>>344486853
It's really not that bad
Gcube has the worst with ds3 coming second
>>344487276
No it really is that bad. It's a fucking disc on a stick on a disc and it's vomit-inducingly awful for fighting games that require accurate response from all eight directions. You probably play fighting games with the analog stick, don't you?
>>344480373
It's kind of crazy how good the Vita D-Pad and even more crazy they didn't put this onto the PS4 controller.
>>344487604
My only experience with it is playing mushihimesama futari on it before my ps360 arribed for my spare stick and it wasn't as bad as people say
>>344486525
Also I'll clarify that I don't like the DS d-pad because it's too big, like it's fine for slow paced games and does have some nice clickiness to it. but as an example,Mario kart DS is so fucking shitty to play on it, doing the back and forth for snaking with that slight extra raised portion on the end of each directional mixed with an extra amount of depression required for a full press, feeling the clickiness each time, It's clunky. Another game that doesn't work well is like pac man, the directions are farther apart so you can say be pressing down and pre-pressing left, you gotta press down then left. It's very subjective I'm aware. But I don't like the DS for these reasons as well as how strangely heavy it is.
The DSi is truly the optimal handheld experience (pre 3DS and excluding the PSP [never owned either]) and with a DSTwo flash card it's a pretty awesome emulations machine. Another thing I really like about the DSi over the earlier DS and lite models was the inch or two added vertically, just enough to make it fit your hands better.
whoops
>>344487604
why not play with keyboard if you want exacting inputs
you can't beat binary
>>344487810
*can't say be
>>344481194
Wii U gamepad's Dpad is so damn comfy. I find it much better than the WUPC's dpad.
>>344480335
First post best post. Only superior one to it isn't technically a d-pad
>>344487893
Whoops indeed, how do you go from >>344482525 which was the second best dpad ever made to this fucking garbage??
>>344488589
>Those clicks it makes
Feels good man
>>344488589
>prototype to joysticks
Good memories, loved the back-up battery function it had too.
>>344488024
Truth. Yet you can't break the FGC of their sticks and get them into the Hitbox.
>>344480164
Every other d-pad in the world including the atrocious x360 d-pad > clicky d-pads
>>344487810
not to mention the non-glossy finish that doesn't attract fingerprints like a motherfucker
>>344487023
Actually, I started with the Sega Master System. I just don't miss the feel of d-pads at all. Sorry if that makes you feel butthurt.
:^)
>>344488804
>prototype to joystick
You mean like in current controllers or like arcade sticks? It was pretty much their neo geo CD controller stick
>>344489664
XD simply epic!
>>344480164
Vita
PSP legitimately had the best dpad I've ever press and the best buttons, even the triggers were god tier for a handheld.
As far as handhelds are concerned, best dpad is on the psp hands down
>>344487138
>30
>old
found the underage
does nintendo have a wireless controller that works with phones or microusb or another 3rd party one that is just as good
I got gamesir for mobile but I like using the analog stick much more for pokemon etc.
>>344480846
Regular GBA's D-pad is raised too high and the directional arrow indents could leave marks if played excessively.
>>344489664
I hate everything about this controller. Fucking everything. I sold my 360 and got a ps3 because I couldn't stand holding the fucking thing.
The wii u pro is how it should have looked and felt.
>>344487138
If I'm barely 20 and I started on the PS1/N64 generation. If you were the minimum age allowed on this site, you would have started on the PS2 gen at the latest. Get out of here kid.
>>344491713
Not him, but 30 certainly isn't young.
dsphat
>objective opinion
Mouse and Keyboard > Genesis > PS2 > Advance SP > Xbox >>>>> everything else
>>344480164
Its cousin has the best of all Nintendo systems. This is because it had to. The apex of d-pad design as a primary input, created just before analog took over.
Also a very comfortable controller. If you ever have a chance to try one, do so. It fits very well in the hands.
