Indeed. Just when you expect everything to wrap up nicely at the end, the game leaves you with questions unanswered not because it's good story telling convention to show and not tell but they literally forget about the plot points they shat out mid-way.

Yakuza 3 had it moments. The orphanage was a nice change of pace from the usual "Tojo clan is in trouble, please do something about it Fourth Chairman." Okinawa was comfy as fuck.

Yakuza always had some cheese spiced into the story but sometimes they take it abit too far.
That ending in Y3 where the dying Kiryu said "Mine taught me one thing. You can believe in people even in the final moments of you life" had me checking if I'm watching some anime or JRPG.

5 has the most content but arguably worse story than 4.
3 has the least content but you have Okinawa to explore. Pick it up if you prefer slice-of-life / slow paced story. Bonus if you like enemies that put up a challenge on Harder difficulties.
