Well if you can't read Japanese start with Sengoku Rance.
Then read the Rance I digest or read the Let's Play.
Then either play the Rance II graphic update or read the let's play or read the digest (it's quite short and while not a great game it's fun enough because it's short).
III is important plotwise though is a very old game. It can be completed in one weekend. It's worth attempting at least or just read the Let's play.
For IV see III though it isn't as important a game as III in terms of plot (has a lot of importance to IX which isn't translated).
4.1 and 4.2 are irrelevant side stories.
Kichikuou Rance is a must play.
