How do you like your protagonists in JRPGs? Do you prefer playing as an adult, teenager or child?

I don't really care. There's good examples of protagonists in all ages. As well as many bad ones.
I just hate it when the protagonist doesn't have a point in the story or doesn't improve over time. It says a lot that the silent protagonist in DQVIII has more development than someone like Tidus in FFX who talks for 20 hours.
