Yes, having Brianna Wu in the game was a bad idea, but not all the heroes were SJW lookalikes.
The bulk of it was just bad timing and refusal to market the thing. Gearbox made the mistake of attempting to compete with Overwatch when they are two different games serving two different markets.
The concept of an FPS MOBA is decent, but UI is a cluttered mess. Pile on the special effects and it can be hard to figure out what is going on at times.
The lack of maps and story mode is a bit disappointing. If you aren't playing competitive, the levels can get old fast.
Matchmaking was decent and I got my fun out of the game.

My friend bought it on X1 and we share gold so Ive played it a bit. Honestly I think its a step-up from B2 artistically which was a cellshaded mess of solid colors (so much fucking blue), at least it has some persona. The content seems pretty low and the gameplay lacks in intensity, it's both light and dry. But I dont think the characters are a problem, I liked to play the few I tried, its the levels and objectives that are bland, and I'd say at least 10 have good character design.
As someone who has played a lot ... I mean a lot, of Battleborn, it definitely has to do with marketing more than anything else imo.
I only knew about it because of a friend and I ended up playing the two betas and enjoyed it so I bought it but I mean, aside from seeing it advertised on SKY Sports for during Monday Night Raw, I don't think I've seen anything about it elsewhere.
