Actually, like >>344453742 said, katana fighting heavily emphasized using "draw cuts", where you basically use your unsheathing as your attack. It's why katana were worn with the blade facing up. You put pressure against the spine of the sword, and use that leverage to rocket it out of its sheathe in a really fast cut. Aspects of it are still practiced today in the sport of Iaido.

Justified in Muramasa because you're wielding several different katanas with unique abilities. I love how you do the screen clearing iaido attack upon drawing a new blade. Another neat thing about the game is that you cannot draw the weapon outside of combat which ties in with the real life lore that Muramasa forged blades consumed the wielder with bloodlust and could not be sheathed until they've killed someone.

My favourite explanation is, it's much harder to accidentally breach the hull (if it's thin) or blast out some vital electronics or water/air/fuel/chemical piping with a sword, axe, or bat than with a gun. Therefore you fight with a gun so you can't accidentally render the ship/station totally fucked if you shot the wrong thing.

Nightmare/Siegfried were pretty low-skill tier too, Mitsurugi was alright though, I mained him in 3 before going Setsuka in 4.
