Depends what you want, they're standalone for the most part. You can have a heartwarming comedy set in a Japanese high school with Fourze or you can have serious experimental drama with something like Faiz or Amazons.
Kuuga is a good start since it's got an enjoyable cast and some of the most brutal villains in the whole seriesthey kill around 1000 people and 2 dogs by episode 10 IIRC
