Why is Bioshock 2 underlooked despite being much better than Bioshock 1 and Bioshock Infinite?
>>
>>344422398
its got more of a spooky feel to it
>>
it's story isn't as iconic as "A MAN CHOOSES"
honestly, it's classic middle child syndrome

has better daughterfu, best combat, and a decent story
best Bioshock, imo
>>
>>344422398
it's more of the same of bioshock 1 but that's what made it so good

and it's not as iconic as >>344422567 says
>>
Did you just watch GGGman's review
>>
>>344422398
1st just has a much better story imo
2 is pretty good regardless
>>
>>344422727
The story shits the bed after the twist though and the end is crap. Bioshock 2 has no twist and has best bro Sinclair and best daughteru Eleanore.

ALSO DRILLL
>>
>>344422398
I really liked bioshock 2 an the dlc was great i cant say the same for infinite, i played infinite once through and i had to force myself to finish it.. what an utter disappointment it was hyped up to shit an it ended up being boring as fuck an instantly forgettable.
>>
>>344422398
It let's you stroll through the streets of Rapture as a Big Daddy, saving lolis while wrecking Splicers with a drill for an arm.

Best BioShock, imo fampai. I think it just tends to get shit on because it's the second game.
>>
>>344422567
It's not that the story isn't Iconic, it's just the exact same story except your at rapture from the start instead of Discovering it and your looking for somebody.

I do wish we got to play as the Dad from the AR game instead of a Random Big Daddy.
>>
>>344422719

I did. It reminded how much I liked Bioshock 2 and how disappointed I was with Bioshock Infinite. I thought Bioshock 1 was meh.

Bioshock 2 was really good, but I think Minerva's Den was even better, storywise.
The ending really fucked me up. Too bad many people never played it or don't even know it exists.
>>
>>344424831
I have it but still haven't played it when I finished B2 like 3 times already. Really need to put myself to it
>>
>>344424593
According to time to beat 2 is only an hour shorter.
>>
>>344422398
>U CAN BE ABIG DADDY!111
>juuust kidding. you are a person cosplaying a big daddy that is weak as fuck
>>
>>344424831
I only played it because of it getting added to copies during the Steamworks move, don't regret it. It's great DLC but the higher difficulty is really harsh since you have to fight Big Daddies with limited resources.
>>
Is Minerva's Den worth it? I got the triple pack some time ago but it doesn't have any dlc.
>>
>>344425050
>first successful big daddy
>somehow doesn't count still
?????????
>>
>>344424593
It's not really much of a difference. If you play Minerva's Den with it (which you get for free with the Steam version), you'll get an even longer playtime.
>>
>>344425246
>same hp and armor as the naked main character from the first game
>access to same guns and powers as first game

dude, you know what i mean.
>>
>>344422398
Because casuals and normies thought the story was shit.

In reality, 2 has far superior and more subtle writing than 1, with a plot that doesn't fall apart at the end to boot.
>>
>>344425050
Every Big Daddy is a person cosplaying as a Big Daddy.
>>
Do you guys remember how the makers said because you were a big daddy, you could scare the shit out of splicers and were just an overall bad ass. But that never happened
>>
>>344425336
>Same guns
So you haven't played one of them, which is it?
>>
>>344422398

>>

Yes, it's the best thing about 2.
>>
1's villain was more charismatic and interesting, but his motivations were abysmal.
2's villain's motivations were interesting, but she was the least charismatic villain ever and was generally pretty ineffectual.
>>
>>344422398
Because Kevin Levine talk shit about it.
>>
>>344422727
I disagree with that first point. Bioshock 1 had a better twist, sure, but 2 had a better overall story.
>>
>>344422398
Because it isn't. It's a despicable cashgrab that adds nothing to the formula while making everything worse.

Couple of reasons

1. This bitch is just annoying and what she stands for has no logic to it
2. Bioshock laid out the setting
3. Level design wasn't as memorable as Bioshock
4. Little Sister harvesting started to get annoying
5. The graphics were worse than Bioshock
6. You couldn't revisit levels

That said the gameplay is significantly better than what 1 and Infinite offer. They fully incorporated the design aspects of Clive Barker's Undying to improve the usage of plasmids in conjunction with a weapon
>>
>>344426618
is that not the case with all "shock" games?
>>
>>344422398
literally the only bad part of bioshock 2 is little sister defense missions
9/10 game, bioshock 1 is 8/10
>>
>>344426618
>Turrets everywhere
>In a DLC where you're given significant incentives to hack turrets and boost their damage

Almost sounds logical or something
>>
>>344425336
you are more durable in 2 than in 1.

You also tend to fight bigger hordes of enemies.

they didn't completely capture the feeling of being a big dady from the first game (though the drill helps a lot), but it certainly feels closer than BS1.

I don't know about that. Alpha series could melt through you faster than an elite rosie in bioshock 1

and if the rumbler big daddy sets up his turrets you're dead in 2 seconds flat

I think your damage output is a bit higher than bioshock 1 and you can use some cc with that to assist
>>
>>344422534

I always feel less spooked playing Bioshock 2 desu being a big daddy that can plow through splicers.

The drill is useless against a crowd of enemies. Which is like all the time. The drill weak balls, not even baiting cause I played BS 2 a few times through and never touched the thing. It requires too much screwing around to make the drill even a passable use, rivet beats it hands down every time.
>>

Drill doesnt feel as satisfying as the fast fwaps with a full Wrench melee build.
>>
>>344430056
shock is only useful if they are in the water really. Looks flashy but you have to consider the other applications of the gene you have. If you genuinely dont like the story than I guess there is no point in it for you.
>>
>>344430346
Done that too the fuel gets eaten like no tomorrow and then you are left with a useless arm. The game then becomes all about looking for oil. But show me the build anyway I could have done it wrong.
>>
>>344430952
You're not wrong about needing oil becoming a pain in the ass, but the drill became a beast in my playthrough. I don't have it installed right now to show ya though.

>>
>>344422398
I hated bioshock 1 and infite was a generic shooter with powers stapled on.

Bioshock 2 is the most unique, so it doesnt cater to the generic fps casual baddies.
I seriously love Bioshock 2, it has such a nice feel to it.
>>
>>344422398
>better that BI
Well yeah
>better than B1
I guess B2 has better plasmids, but B1 is better overall, at least it doesn't make me go though underwater sections where interaction with the environment is limited
>>
Out of context, I think Bioshock 2 is better than Bioshock 1 in pretty much every way. The only reason it didn't get as much praise is because it didn't have that originality factor that Bioshock 1 had. We had already been to Rapture, we had already seen Big Daddies. Bioshock 2 is pretty much just a better version of Bioshock 1, but for those of us who had already played the shit out of Bioshock 1, it felt like more of the same.

I think if you take a person who has never played a Bioshock game, and you make them play 2 before 1, they will definitely like 2 better because the originality factor would still be there.
>>
>>344431201
I usually play BS 2 once a year, I'll have another go at it then.
>>
Bioshock 2 should have been, like, a full-length expansion pack to the first game, which might have mitigated some of the mainstream thinking it lacked the originality of the first one.

Also maybe it's just because it didn't have a dramatic twist on par with the first time you walk into that room and see WOULD YOU KINDLY on the wall while listening to that dog-killing audio diary
>>
The multiplayer was genuinely the most fun multiplayer I've ever played.

Is it even possible to play it now?
>>
>>344422567
>best combat

But it's still bad.

It's similar to Bioshock 1, only that the atmosphere had already been used so it wasn't as cool, the combat was better but still had bullet sponges as only difficulty.

It's a better game than the first one, but it didn't surprise anyone.
>>
>>344432231
It was practically impossible to find a match 2 years after release, good luck finding anything now.
>>
>>344425626
>So you haven't played one of them, which is it?

Not him but I played one after the other.

Instead of the gun you have the "totally not a gun this one can place traps"

Instead of the rifle you have the machine gun which does the same thing

Instead of the shotgun you have... the shotgun?

He does have a point.
>>
>>344432231
There was a bump in activity after the Steamworks transistion, but you may just want to wait until the collection comes out, if they even bother to include the multiplayer.
>>
>>344432231
>The multiplayer was genuinely the most fun multiplayer I've ever played
Ultimate diamond in the rough multiplayer. The core concepts there were fucking amazing and there was so much room to just have fun. But it was marred, at least for me, by the insane lag and general huge amount of bugs. Maybe it's just because I played on XBox 360 so I may have gotten the shit version compared to PC, idk. But with a bit more polish that multiplayer probably would have been the best multiplayer ever.

XBox 360 servers are still up but no one plays. IDK about other platforms.

What was better, Pipe Dream or golf minigame?

I think pipe dream is more interesting in short amounts, but if you hack alot (and there's a lot to hack) it gets old really fast.
>>
>>344432863
I prefer golf minigame because it didn't pause the action. Having to split your attention and take risks for the reward, where as in BS1, you basically just hack everything as soon as possible because there was no risk.
>>
>>344422398
Too similiar to 1, yet feels more committee-designed.
Didn't help that it was released so soon after, everyone called it out as a soulless cash-grab.
>>
I loved System Shock 1 and 2, but never bothered with the Bioshock games. I know they're vastly different, but are the two Bioshock games worth giving a shot?
>>
>>344423286
Meh, the twist felt like the end of the story- the fact that you get revived & have the opportunity to stop the guy felt more like an encore.
Nowadays it'd be sold as a 30$ DLC.

I actually rather liked it- end boss was trash, but it was closure.
>>
>>344432863
I beat bioshock 1 in one sitting the other day.

After the crazy artist guy I didn't even hack anything anymore, I was sick of it, I just went ahead and shot what I needed to shoot and bought what I needed to buy.

Then I realized hacking doesn't even make that much of a difference and isn't worth the effort at all.

>>344432863
Pipe Dream was fun for me but the golf minigame might actually be a better idea since it makes hacking more of a tactical choice by not pausing the game.

The story is straightforward instead of introducing a twist. The people who hate it hate it for its story (which really isn't all that bad), and disregard the improvements to gameplay.

It honestly makes me kinda sad that Bioshock hasn't been made into a movie yet, if everything went right it could be groundbreaking.
I think the biggest problem is getting a big company to fund it, and adapting all the more 'out there' stuff (ie big daddys, underwater city) to not look tacky in live action.

I didn't play two for years after playing one but the game is great. I don't think there really needs to be a 1 vs 2 competition but there were a lot of things 2 did better while 1 had more memorable (or iconic) moments and characters.
There's nothing in 2 that compares to Andrew Ryan, or Cohen or the twist but the game plays better, the arenas are less linear, the dynamic shadows are awesome, the weapons are great.

If you liked 1 go play 2. It's just another great story from an already great universe.
>>
>>344430193

The drill has the ground pound shock that is designed for groups of enemies. You also get the dash which allows you to pick off splicers in crowds before their friends can really react to you.

I loved fighting groups of splicers in 2.
>>
>>344430952

If you've been using the drill you should have tons of ammo in storage. Switch to a weaker weapon until you come across oil. By the time the drill is a killing machine, finding fuel isn't really an issue.
