For it to be the worst genre of game it would have to be aggressively bad, and racing games aren't usually offensively lackluster.
I'd give it to Visual Novels or any game that relies heavily on QuickTime events. Something with really shit gameplay rather than a genre who's niche I don't belong to.

The only proper way to appreciate NASCAR and oval racing is by playing sims like NASCAR 2003 or iRacing. It's a LOT more than driving in a circle. Driving centimetres apart at 200mph is pretty dope in a competitive and realistic environment like iRacing.

I love the game but they keep breaking things with every patch. The current fuckup is the suspension has no max compress limit so anytime you take a jump when you land the suspension collides with the body and your car wrecks itself due to the new health system they are using.
That is still ignoring they haven't fixed the physics for when cars leave the ground - they all have cement on the back seats and crumple HARD when the front wheels touch down meaning the only way to take jumps on high speed tracks is to brake right before them.

Once upon a time, I found a racing game in the bargain bin. This game was based around upgrading your car with bigger part combinations and then racing it against others for pink slips. After winning other cars, you could strip them down for parts and money, to further upgrade you own car. Beyond just that, the car took realistic damage. If you ran up on a curb, you were likely to crumple that specific fender and cause damage to that specific part of your vehicle suspension. Damage like that would make it hard to steer, but not prevent the car from continuing to race. Other more severe wrecks would ruin more of the car than you could afford to replace. The point I'm trying to make is that none of the damage the car took was simply visual or superficial, the game was a lifelike car damage simulator. The game had a lot of very interesting lifelike features that would be cool to see in other games, but you really never do see them in other games. The problem with the game is that the actual racing part consisted of only one activity, which was to repeatedly find the one other car that was driving around the city too fast and to challenge them to a race. You just repeated that one activity until you had built the ultimate car and nobody could beat you anymore.

Motorstorm never felt right to me in the ways the car handled. Also the rubber banding AI really killed it for me. I remember getting it near release and I wanted to like it so badly.

Burnout was floaty arcady shit though. I played 1 and 2 and dropped it. I heard 3 was better but it can't be that much better.
Midnight Club 1 and 2 were fucking fantastic and 3 was alright as well, but I really wouldn't trust modern Rockstar with the games.
NFS died a long time ago and all the modern ones feel like fucking floaty Burnout because Criterion are making them. RIP old style NFS like High Stakes and Hot Pursuit.
Flatout is the goat car game though. 1 has the most perfect driving mechanics I've ever seen, and 2 is just pure fun even though it's slightly more arcady. Bugbear are doing Wreckfest now since they lost the rights to the name, so Wreckfest will be a spiritual succesor.

you cant see the tension in his arms/hands, u cant monitor the focus, u can read the heart rate... all u see is whats in the youtube video.
u also can see how the physics changed in/out of turn, behind or in front of car(s). Talladega isnt that hard, but daytona is tighter and the turns fucking dump u into them and throw u out.
I personally don't like doing those super speedways because it wears u out in just 15min of racing a quick race at daytona or talladega. It's not like 1.5 mile ovals or road courses where the turns and straights give you 1-2sec worth of breathing room before the next.
here you're tensed up from lap 1 to lap XX. At daytona u have to turn in when you're turning out into the straight or you slide into the wall or other car. If you're being pushed in traffic that makes the car floaty and it drives like you're on ice.
