Read between the lines. Prompto may act like a happy go lucky goof, but as you can tell, his self-confidence is really poor and he's desperate for acknowledgment and validation. Gladio acts like a laid back older bro, but he's fairly high-strung and tends to be short-sighted and biased. And what binds them to Noctis is not just his status or "friendship" but the fact that he gives them absolutely fair and unconditional acceptance. He knows them better than they know themselves and gives them what they need, letting them come to him when they're ready to change their attitudes.
It's actually a rather interesting and subtle dynamic.
I honestly hope one of the chocobros dies in the game,especially Prompto. Not because I hate him but because having one of your comrades die would be terribly heartwrenching and watching how the dynamic of the characters change when one of them dies would be very painful. Also Prompto loves to take pictures so he'd leave behind all these photos of your adventures. Killing off Luna would be too predictable and too much like Aerith's death.
