Things outside the gameplay, you might laugh at this staement but it is true

The development values say a lot about a game, and that's why you can allways tell when AAA game devs cut corners on

Things like graphics, music, writing, atmosphere really add up to a game and makes you think whoever developed it really put some time and love into the game for you to enjoy

Take it from me a guy that loves New Vegas not because the gameplay is that fun, but everything around it is so great

>>344418531
>>344418638

Yes, is not like the gameplay doesn't make up for a good game either. I hate walking simulators who bank on this idea by having ok development values and NO gameplay. That is a shit practice that i feel like devs should stay away from

I like the idea of designing things around the gameplay to make it more worthwhile and give you options on how you can play it. Some other games do that shit of "It's only fun the first 10 hours" and then it becomes nothing but a repetitive mess

If it lasts longer than I play it.

If I can formulate strategies and refined my technique when I'm busy at work.

If I can listen to the soundtrack and nearly start crying while out on a walk.

Then it is good. Any game that only matters during the short period of time that I'm playing it is a pointless waste of time.

>Owls are the dumbest of them all.
Nah, active hunting predators are always decently intelligent. They have to be able to predict their prey, while a herbivore doesn't need to predict a plant.

Species such as chickens have very primitive brains though.

>>344424164
They're literally the smartest thing besides humans.
>>
>>344424461
>Crow knowing how to fish
They just need to learn how to make tools and agriculture and they'll be in their way to create a civilization.
>>
>>344425225
Scavengers are typically the smartest of animals, as they require more problem solving skills than predators and herbivores.
>>
>>344425248
>implying they don't have civilization

Humans basically just banged rocks together for 800.000 years before we started erecting cities you know
>>
>>344425248
They already make tools. There was some test where they gave a grow a piece of metal wire and a hole with food in it. Many of the crows understood that they could bend the wire into a hook to get the food.

Put it in a box and feed it. See if the damage is permanent. If it turns out permanent you can try calling a shelter, if they won't take it, at least you tried.
>>
>>344425539
Not just that, I saw one where the crow had to assemble his rod out of smaller pieces. Basically he realized that 3 smalls = 1 large and attached them to reach the hidden food. It was on PBS a long time ago so I don't know how he attached them, but it was probably like a plastic toy one where they snapped together, or magnets, who knows. But something like that did happen.

>>
>>344425606
>FFXIII_weapons.gif
>>
>>344425648
Yes that's the top 3 though, on average they are more intelligent (not so much socially intelligent however)
Remember humans evolved from scavengers originally, as did most mammals
>>
Sadly birds are surprisingly expensive to care for, especially the smart ones.
>>
>>344418059

I've owned a crow before actually. Best pet ever.. not sure what gender it was.

It looked through magazines and pecked the eyes out of anyone they didn't like. Had him in a cage at night, but he patiently unscrewed the hinges. Hides treasures from me, checks if I'm looking, re-hides if I noticed. Loves the exact same bad food I like, put anything that's too hard in water to soak it (can't chew). Watches TV. Throws glass objects off shelves because he loves how shiny the shards look.. hides them. Hates my sister, does dive-bombs on her whenever she stops by.

Never had a more fun pet. Cookie, was a true bro.

>>
>>344426669
Yeah, that was the one downside. Though I hear you can potty train them pretty easily, I never tried. Their shit doesn't really smell much at least.

I found him at the bottom of a tree as a chick, couldn't leave him to die. Turned out great.

Very wide vocal range. They don't have vocal cords, so they use a completely different system. It works more like a flute.
They're also good at learning and imitating.

If it has soul. No, really. If a bunch of brain dead lifeless devs being whipped by a publisher made it, usually it's garbage. Take the copy and pasted, mass produced Call Of Duty games as an example.

New gameplay mechanics or existing mechanics with new additions make for a good game. As long as they work and aren't riddled with game breaking exploits or glitches.

Good audio. I find myself muting music on most games now because the music just simply doesn't suit or is awkward and clunky.

Suitable story. I recently got that Valkyrie Chronicles game in a humble bundle. Bunch of happy teenagers being over the moon as an "evil" empire invades and they have to do battle with them. Rubbish.
