What kind of protagonist is the most appealing to you in a JRPG?
An adult, teenager, or child?

A child because it can be interesting.
Teenager is what they always do and it's just generic.
The west has the adult protagonist already anyway.
So child.
There are almost zero JRPGs where the fact that the protagonist is an adult actually winds up beneficial to the plot. At least children and teenagers are explorative and naive, meaning that we can have adventures fueled by their general lack of awareness in the world. Adults are boring, set in their ways, and are almost always unhappy.

OP's pic related is the best answer.

A buff kawai teenager?

Yes.

No, summer. Going from a child, to a young adult, then a parent. Experiencing the hardships of adventure from all those points of view as your character grows as a person. There's a reason that epics always deal with families.

Also summer, also wrong.
