How bad is this game on the weeb scale (moe/cliche characters, cheesy dialogue, plot that doesn't make sense)?
I played it ages ago and I remember it being pretty bad on all of your parameters. Play Xillia which is also bad but at least has good gameplay.

When you cross the mountains where you find Ninja Tits and you're about to go take a boat from some Seatown on the bottom right of the continent, say "Nah fuck that" and walk straight up the coastline until you reach a bridge instead and go through that. Then just proceed forward and you'll eventually fall into it.
You just do some later game shit earlier and some earlier game shit later. Be careful though, I remember having a hard time trying to figure out how to go to the normal route after doing the hard route because the boat won't take you or some shit. It's been a while, I don't really remember. But it's not that much harder anyway and I don't think it really affects much down the line.

I thought it was pretty cool. I got about 20 hours in and quit. it's definitely jrpg cheese (which I love btw) but it seems like an entry into a genre with much better options. the combat got old as I'd just spam the same attack until I got a new attack I liked to spam. then I'd get stuck in corners. I could never get into the tales combat system for this era. the visual and audio quality was nice for its time.
really, many people enjoy this game even though I wasn't crazy about it. give it a try with an open mind, op. you MIGHT love it.

I remember in lunar: silver star story, you could collect lithographs (actually they might not have been called that) which were highly detailed pics of the characters, and the girls were in some pretty provocative shit. This is important to me. In this game, you can take them to hot springs, and ninjatits gets into a bikini if I remember correctly.

Also, Kratos is guilty of everything Zelos was and more. At least Zelos had his own motives and a personality, even if it was occasionally grating. What it lacks in story it doesn't make up for in characters. Sorey's motivations for moving the story along are too cliche without deep meaning besides 'right thurng ta doo'. Supporting characters, aside from Mikleo and his homosexuality for Sorey, are cardboard archetype cutouts that don't make you feel invested for them.

The gameplay is underwhelming added with a bad camera only adds to frustration. I thought the examples some anon provided with webms was cherrypicked and forced to happen, but I was just casually playing through and the camera IS total balls.

Big boss man was there at the Tower of Salvation. From how you played, either Kratos couldn't bring himself to fight Lloyd seriously and was injured, or he couldn't bring himself to finish off Lloyd without Yggdrasil showing his ugly twink mug.
Kratos didn't have a choice in the matter and I doubt he seriously would have let Yggdrasil kill Lloyd had the renegades not shown up, or maybe that's what he was counting on.
From then, Kratos even shows up several times and just goes "What are you doing? Go here, do this, you'll figure it out."

I love it and it's definitely worth a try, but it's outdated. If you've only played the newer entries in the series, then the combat is going to annoy you. (Spell queue and extremely limited mobility--there is no free run and you cannot sidestep.)
It's generally agreed that emulating the Gamecube version and patching it to run in HD is best.
The PC port is fucking trash.
The PS3 port is okay, though it's locked at 30fps and has a handful of translation errors that weren't present in the Gamecube version.
The vanilla Gamecube version has the least amount of content. Some people go on about it being 60fps, but it pretty much only hits 60 when there's nothing at all going on. It often hitches in the overworld and completely shits itself in combat any time more than one special attack is used at once. It's also super fucking muddy and blurry to eyes spoiled by HD, especially if it's played on an HDTV. It's natively 480i, 4:3 and it has a blurring filter stuck on besides.
I've never played the PS2 version, so I can't really say anything of it.

"extra bosses" are just refights with cruxis with more stats the bonus dungeon. casino is shitty and makes getting devils arms tedius. extra events are all minor things that mainly exist so you can get characters like zelos or regal as your soulmate without intentionally pissing everyone else off and the new mystic artes/unison attacks are either pointless are broken.
new moves for bosses is cool, making it so kratos isn't guaranteed to be the fourth person at flanoir is an interesting change but none of the added features are worth losing the tech glitch and the worse loading times, weird upscaled graphics and general fuck ups of the ps2/ps3/pc ports
