Playing a lot of Terraria. Is there another game that can provide this level of gear variety, gameplay and roleplay depth (from gear dye through plant farming), and is multiplayer?

The NPCs have lots of lines that tell the story, provide guidance/suggestions, and show how they get along with other NPCs. They provide a bunch of items and house materials, and unlocking them is also a set of experiences.

Maybe so, but so are shmups, and they're way more interactive than Souls is.

I wasn't even suggesting Terraria has survival mechanics, just listing reasons why Souls isn't anything deep. Yet, the game also has mediumcore, which drops items before respawn. It would be simple enough to mod in hunger or whatever as well.

Dark Souls 2 was known for having NPC plotlines that kind of start and then just sit around in hub not going anywhere, but the reason this was talked about so much is because Dark Souls 1 and 3 by comparison have the best NPC stories in a modern video game. Man I used to do shit like this on a small scale. Making a custom WC3 map and making small factions, kingdoms and clans. Dwarves would only have dwarven buildings or units, Magocracy would have the Archmage, sorcerers, priests and so on and so fort. Then I'd manually control them and make alliances and wars between each other(manual attack was a pain in the ass). Every game ended with everyone getting murdered and everything destroyed when I get bored. Each game would last for maybe an hour or two.
But holy shit that guy is on a whole different level.
