If this is really true, a network game where you cannot interact with anyone, anyhow, just has to be the most stupid idea I ever heard. It's as if the only purpose for it to be networked is for the developers to jack off it's planet database or something. Seriously, someone explain this to me, what's the point???

I literally laughed out loud when I was reading up on this game and saw that it had no multiplayer.

How can you fuck up THIS bad? It's like Terraria or Minecraft except it's all single player and you can't actually build anything.

This is gonna be such a massive blunder.

Good fucking question. We still don't know the magnitude of interactivity nor the diversity of lifeforms/planets. I suspect it's low on all accounts.

How are they supposed to show this off. They have plainly said this is the core of the game.

I mean, every single type of animal they show is one animal you've just seen, so thats effectively wasted content you will never find for the first time yourself.

Its a dodgy proposition to buy a game on the promise that there will be interesting planets to explore but showing those planets is even worse because it means there is no reason to buy it at all. Its a gamble to buy the game if you are interested in exploration games but then again all exploration games are dodgy propositions in the first place.

That doesnt really address my point, the more they show the less people can find on their own. Fundamentally the planets and animals are limited by their form of reality so regardless of all the planets there has to be limits to how different things will be.

I just think judging the game as having no explorable content when they are in no position to prove it without destroying the entire purpose of the game is unfair.

They're going for the Star Wars kind of planet, where everything is a single biome.

My point is, you can use the planets they've shown to judge the diversity of the final game, personnally I think it's varied enough but yeah, some of the planets look pretty much the same, particularly the "hill with colored tree" types.

Although they've said planets would get weirder eventually so perhaps they've hidden the ebst stuff, some of thoses planets do look pretty good.

This is a pretty autistic post. Limited by reality, really? More like limited by the imagination and time constraints of 13 people working on a game that's meant to be enormous. It's as many assets as they could make and randomly generated for thousands of miles. Of course it's going to be a bunch of shallow nothing, it would be technically impossible for it to not to be given the scale and the size of the team. Even a massive aaa team couldn't populate for than a few dozens species and a couple empty planets. This is going to be the most shallow and repetitive full priced release of all time--literally.
>>
>>344395915
Yes. You can also craft and upgrade your ship but it doesn't matter because your end goal is just looking at more cookie cutter planets and mobs
>>

These two sentences have nothing in common

I understand you're just looking for reasons to hate the game, but im not going to waste time if you're going to be naive about it took.

Obviously not every single planet is unique, but everything they show is wasted assets because its something people cant explore because now they know about it. Maybe the game will have nothing to explore and maybe it wont but we wont know until we play it.

You're dumb guy. Those two sentences are directly related. It's a map the size of a galaxy populated by the amount of assets 13 guys could make. They may be randomly generated models but they will have very limited distinction in ai or behavior or anything that will set them apart from other randomly generated models. They've created an algorithm to populate a lot of space with nothing beyond random models. But there's no design to support any of that and make an actual game out of it or distinguish between planets beyond color scheme

>>
>>344397503
They're not. You're assuming that as a player going through the game you will never see anything unique and that the entire play zone is relevant. It isnt.

All they have to do is populate the average number of planets a player will need to travel to reach the center with a handful of interesting things ranging from NPCs, aliens, materials to space ships, languages and whatever else is on show. They dont have to populate every single inch of every single planet because people are not going to explore an entire planet, they are going to land on it, find some unique content, gather what they need and leave to the next planet.

Its not actually an ambitious game.

Since the game was announced I was pretty hyped but only cause I knew that we only could get a nice looking "walking sim" in space made by a small studio. One of you said the order. It's a tiny map full of scripted events and shooting sequences. Its randomly generated so there will be billions upon billions of planets. Since its server-sided, there's a posibility that you will meet someone but the chance is less than 1%.
>>
>>344395119

Realistically it will be either that (minecraft-level "biomes" with the desert planet, the ice planet, the lava planet, the jungle planet etc... and their respective fauna) or they'll go full procedural and genetic algorithms and you might get more variety but it probably won't look nearly as good because you'll end up with weird looking stuff everywhere, and stuff will still look a bit samey everywhere since it's generated from the same algorithm.

I'm hoping for the former.

I hope it gives you like, the ability to see everything discovered by the community as a sort of encyclopedia and the ability to set a course to particular planet.

Like until you reach the center of the universe you're mostly alone, and your encyclopedia is only composed of the speicies/planets you discovered. Then once you reach the center and maybe the Atlas you have access to every other discovered planet, with the ability to search particular keywords or types of species. And as you travel to them you discovers others planets, and maybe others people will also want to check out thoses planets once you've uploaded them.

I think it's simple enough to make and will allow for a lot of replayabiltiy.

It depends. I'm skeptical as you are, but there is no denying that random generation does work for some games. I didn't want to pick up Terraria because it was randomly generated, but the game is fantastic. The assets and mechanics are enhanced by the random generation.

While I still think there is little possibility of the game not being a giant empty wasteland, I'll hold my judgment until I see it.

No, all the pilotable spaceships are relatively the same size and are one-man. Though they have many different shapes, features, performance variables. To upgrade your ship I've been told you just buy a better ship.

You might be able to upgrade a ship's stats or add a hyperdrive, though it's essentially been confirmed that you can't change the appearance.

I have largely ignored most of this games hype and discussion and only started looking into in the past few hours.

I get the game is a space exploration, I get that its not supposed to be viewed as a multiplayer game. A question I have is if there is a way for people to interact if they do.

Like if I were playing and I found another anon, could we team up to any degree? Like swap usernames and talk over a forum and share goals?

I know there are multiple factions, so is it possible for wars to be fought between groups?

If you can't answer with a finished game then you can understand why people are hyped for nms. It offers what all the other space games can't and that's enemy variety, planet variety and weapon variety all in one. Most get two of those but the aliens are either non existent or there's only like 10 in a whole universe which ruins immersion.

>>
>>344408254
How would that work?

There's no base-building or anything that would make you want to hang around the same place permanently, that's pretty clear. And the galaxy is big as fuck, so you're not going to reach the edge anytime soon. What'll happen the? Either you and your friends play exactly at the same time and agree on when to leave for the next solar system, or eventually you'll split apart and the gap between your ships will eventually grow so big you can't hope to catch up with 15 minutes of farming. And having an instant warp set to your friend's location wouldn't fit in the game.

getting to the center of the universe is stupid, why would you purposely travel to the biggest singularity in existence?
>>
Devs confirmed no dlc. If the game delivers on its promises it'll have more than enough content anyways. It's just gamers are so used to lies and empty promises they can't trust anything anymore. I'm just glad I can still get hyped for things, you guys should just find a new hobby honestly. Space game comes out with no early access or dlc garbage, plus no multiplayer so no chance for microtransactions. And they made new systems for procedural creatures, weapons, soundtrack, creature sounds, planets, plants, and the chemical make up of the planet determines the color of the sky just like here on earth. It's actually saving games for me I haven't been hyped for like this anything in years

Hey guys we made a game about exploration but there's not going to be anything more cool to find than anything in a modded minecraft server because it'll have roughly the same tier of randomization for locations!

The game wouldn't even function if this wasn't the case, nothing would stop you from flying up and back down again to the same place mining reappearing resources.
