I had both versions of the controller. The second one is better but it's extremely small and my shoulder buttons were really noisy. After playing with it for a couple of months the xbox 360 controller feels really bulky, I still prefer the stick placement for most games though.

Build and ergonomics of the DS4 are better than DS3, and it's pleasant in the hands to me. The analog sticks are ok.
I don't really have a problem with the touchpad, but it's not the best nor the worst. The battery life and the speaker on it though sucks.

The PS4 is an absolute nightmare for downloading. Sometimes mine stops for no reason. It took me a whole week to download NBA because it would decide to just stop.
Games are like 50% marked up on physical prices too. It's mad. On the rare occasioni do buy one though or have an update, it must download at 1mb/s. It's horrid.
The absolute worst part us it will say ready to play then 10 minutes in stop you and say 'oh wait no, I'm only 26% done'.

It's utter shit the gadgets ruin the battery which lasts even less if you attach a headset to it, and you should use a headset especially for pvp games. 5-6 hours are a joke.
