Is this actually any good?
One of the best games of all time? yeah its pretty good
>>344377634
Greatest Kojima could offer.
>Directed by Hideo Kojima
Nope.
It's good but there's the typical Kojima 40 minute infodump at the end
>>344377634
One of my favorite games of all time, it's awesome.
Policenauts had good visuals too.
>>344377634
It's alright.
It's pretty much a Blade Runner visual novel.
What's the best way to play Policenauts and Snatcher?
I WANT MY PIZZA
>>344379598
MY PIZZA
IT SANK JUST LIKE THE REST OF THIS CITY'S GONNA-
I liked Policenauts more.
It is good, but it has that annoying tendency of older adventure games that force you to select the same talking option multiple times to advance the story.
HOSPITAL OLEEN?
>>344380012
This, was my only complaint with the game.
I personally played this after Va-11 Hall-a left a void I needed to fill, and snatcher kept getting reccomended. Bit slow to start but fuck I fell in love so hard.
Also, should know this going in. The Sega CD version is the definitive version, but it has some censorship on nudity. The pc engine version doesn't have censorship but has inferior soundtrack and is missing the third chapter entirely.
Honestly I would just follow a guide on your playthrough since the use the same talk option 4 times to trigger an event gets pretty frustrating.
Overall yes, the game is a 10/10. Save often, fuckboy
>>344379537
On a Sega CD on aburned CD-R
Second place is an emulator
>>344377634
Amazing. I recommend emulating the MSX2 version. No censorship that the others got in the west and a few classic Kojima puzzles that don't work in the other platforms.
>>344380295
And don't forget slight changes.
>>344380568
I don't know much about this game other than the fact that it has a kickass theme song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8O7VTw1E3b4
>>344380648
What the hell was his problem?
>>344380648
looks much better
>>344380719
The entire games soundtrack is god tier
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mflsR8RkV9I
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeUbRd3eIeY
The soundtrack is fucking great.
I made a cassette tape of it because why the fuck not.
>>344380857
Typical autist who reeeee'd when someone took his oneitis
>>344380896
thats fucking cool. Kinda want to do the same
>>344380540
Forget what I said about MSX2>>344380295
is right. Play that. But if you really liked the game replay it on MSX2 for uncensored scenes and some cut puzzles and classic Kojima meta fuckery.
>>344377634
Great adventure game, had some pretty novel puzzles and stuff.
Overall, I enjoyed policenauts more; but it was pretty much Lethal Weapon in space, so it's kinda unfair to compare the two.
>>344380857
He's what happens when you get anal devastated to the next level.
>>344380969
i though the msx2 version was untranslated?
Want to play Policenauts. Whats the best way to emulate is? PCSX2?
>>344380881
Gillian's eyes are looking at different directions in the PCE version and his hair tries to look like Deckards from Blade Runner.
>>344381057
Fan translation at least. I played it in English.
>>344381107
when was this scene? I dont remember Gillian ever meeting Katie until the very end
>>344381107
Also they just redrew over the MSX/PC-8801 version rather than the SEGA CD version where they improved the gun position and face.
>>344381271
Just look closely at them and you'll see big differences.
>>344380954
I'll post the j-card image when I get home in about 20 minutes if you want to make one yourself.
It's not like I'm allowed to sell the tape anyway, no sense in being precious about it.
>>344381259
It's from the SEGA CD intro. It's exclusive in that version only.
It's a good game but has issues like >>344380012 said. Sometimes you're clicking around for a bit before realizing 'Oh, it took X amount of checks to make this trigger'.
Still great, but I'm probably biased since I got to play it as a kid. Blew my mind.
>>344381071
Yeah, I played it on an emulator. There's an english translation patch at JunkerHQ
>>344381071
Oh, and make sure to enable the playstation mouse in the control options for your emulator.
Cozy apartment?
>>344381436
I dont really have any method of recording it to a cassette anyway.
What do you use for this anyway? Direct connector or just record the sound?
>>344381557
Question about the versions. I recall how this clue played about in the msx2 version but how did it work on the other platforms where it would have been impossible?
>>344381659
I never played the msx version, but in the Sega CD version you just find the disk and put it into a computer in Katrinas house to find the image on it of OLEEN.I think it was inside of the model house?
>>344381648
A shitty old Sony tape deck with a CD to tape record function. I've made a bunch of soundtrack tapes for old video games this way. I planned on opening an etsy store, but it's mostly Konami shit and they'd probably fuck me with legal action until my ass was in tatters.
>>344381829
So they cut the puzzle but didn't change it? msx version, the computer had a password and that was the clue.
>>344381829
Wrong anon,What was actually on the floppy disc was Gibson's notes on how to detect SNATCHERS, it explains on how they have a defect on their artificial skin, the hospital OLEEN image was actually from Little John's recovered memory chip from the beginning of the game.
>>344381892
damn makes me wish my car still had a tape deck
would like to do this with the hotline miami and the va-11 hall-a soundtracks
>>344381926
And to answer your question, they did butcher it a bit. They cut out the part where you put in the password. It just cuts straight to PC booting up explaining Gibson's notes.
>>344381974
>>344381926
Ah, this anon is right. The Sega CD version still had passwords you had to manually type in. I remember napoleon needed a password each time you called him
>>344382142
It's understandable. The password would not have worked on anything without a keyboard.
>>344381993
I'm doing a hotline miami tape at the moment, and planning a set of HM2 tapes in the same colors as the collector's edition vinyl record set they did.
Even if I can't make any bank off them, they're still fun to make. It's good to keep yourself busy sometimes.
>>344382325
What do you do, two tracks per side?
>>344382446
You can get about five average length tracks on each side of a 60 minute tape.
>>344382665
thanks anon, this seems like a cool hobby, I might look into it
>>344382148
Mostly for navigating JORDAN, answering Katrina's questions and using Metal Gear.
>>344377634
I would prefer official licensed game.
>>344378604
>yfw corporation shootout scene
>>344383070
but also that preparation scene too
>>344377634
Yes, I would say so, though it is a BLATANT ripoff of Bladerunner. I kinda hoped after Kojima left Konami he'd go back to making this style of game because this and Policenauts were really good.
>>344383070
>Doing this without knowing how to autotrigger
Goddamn.
>>344383307
>game came out at the end of the Sega CD's life cycle, and already failed console
>didnt sell well
>Konami will never follow up on it
>Kojima has said he doesn't want to follow up on this (even though he cant now that he left)
yfw they will never finish the story
>>344383448
>>344383239
True. Policenauts were enjoyable overall.
>>344383590
Konami pulled a Nintendo in this game but it was understandable.
She's like 14 in the other versions.
>>344383676
What was his problem too? First day on the job and he's already giving you shit.
Plus is drinking even allowed while on the job?
>>344383989
his close friend died, you dummy
his boss probably encouraged it, given his situation you learn about in the end.
>>344384109
Friend? I hardly knew the guy!
Wait so Half-Life's writer Mar Laidlaw helped the fan translation of Policenauts?
>>344384239
that doesn't meanyour son didnt know him well
>>344383439
Snatcher did well enough in Japan, but apparently Konami won't re-release on modern systems cause they're afraid they'll get sued by the Blade Runner people
>>344384654
Really? And here I thought it was because point and clicks dont sell
Thats unfortunate. I have a pretty strong emotional connection to Snatcher, but unfortunately I can't afford to purchase a legit copy of the game and obviously there is no merchandise of it.
>>344384817
>can't afford to purchase a legit copy
That's why I hate hipsters, collectors that don't play their buys and the times we live in when it comes to retro games. Shit used to be a bit expensive but not outrageous like it is now.
>>344384817
>Kojima still has fond memories of his 8-bit days, at least in part because it was a wilder time for the industry in general. "Younger people probably wouldn't understsnd, but you know Gunbuster, right?" referring to the 1988 anime miniseries from Gainax. "That was sort of created as a giant homage by a bunch of science-fiction geeks. Snatcher was pretty much the same way; there's a ton of references in the game that sort of skirt copyright laws. I never worried about that back then, because doing what I liked in games -- an interactive form of media -- was in itself a new thing for me. The industry sort of grew along with me, and before I realized it, I started to work with really big budgets."
Emphasis on this sentence in particularly:
>Snatcher was pretty much the same way; there's a ton of references in the game that sort of skirt copyright laws.
I always find it curious how Konami's entire PC Engine catalog (Dracula X, Tokimemo and Martial Champions) managed to find its way into the Japanese Virtual Console and even Policenauts is on the Japanese PSN, yet Snatcher is the one game they left out.
I'm guessing copyright issues must be really serious. It's not that different from all the re-releases of Metal Gear 2 replaced the celebrity ripoff portraits with Shinkawa-style art.
>>344386325
To be honest, /v/ isnt innocent either. In a game collection thread this guy boasted about having two copies of the game. Same with Megaman Legends series.
Honestly I think "gamers" of today have a responsibility to take care of the original game copies that exist, as obviously more will never be created again. Its a shame that these people would rather hoard copies for themselves based on muh rarity then allowing others to experience the games themselves.
>>344386570
I feel like enough time has passed that, in a court of law, they wouldn't be able to pursue a lawsuit based on the date it was created. Then again, I'm not a lawyer. I know things can get sloppy when it comes to re-releases and voice actors, so this is likely no different.
Man could you imagine owning one of the original game sketches from the game, back when they were planning Snatcher? Last I heard Kojima has them all in binders on a shelf in his office.
>>344386558
would be funnier if it was just his face
>>344381647
It's curved oddly. I never liked that ominous hallway.
>>344387140
>Its a shame that these people would rather hoard copies for themselves based on muh rarity then allowing others to experience the games themselves.
I never understood that mentality, I suppose. It feels like you'd be judging people on whether or not they can play a game which is silly. What makes you worthy? I've had friends that lived in shabby places that literally babied their rare games due to how much they loved them and wanted them to last.
I used to work at a vidya store too and we'd have shitty employees trying to hoard stuff or obvious resellers coming in. As employees we had our own 'cubbies' we'd get to place up to 2 games in that we were going to buy next paycheck. I'm soft-hearted so if someone came in looking for a game I had in my cubby. I remember one guy just literally dancing in the store since I 'found' Gunstar heroes in the back CIB (I had it in my drawer) and he bought a second genesis controller to use it with his friend. I just figured he and his friend would get a lot of happiness out of it, moreso than I would.
>>344388001
Messed that up. Late night.
*if someone came in looking for a game I had in my cubby I'd usually go and get it.
>>344386570
That's odd. Policenauts is very Lethal Weapon.
>>344386558
>that note that slowbeef made a bout how he didn't want to finish policenauts until his friends insisted on account of the titgroping
Jesus christ what a pussy
>>344388001
I still remember going to a gamestop and the girl behind the counter completely lit up when I told her I was trying to find a copy of Gotcha Force and Godhand. She ended up ordering me a copy from another Gamestop even though it was against company policy.
When I came back to pick it up she ranted to her coworker about how good God Hand was who had never heard of it. Instead of hording "rare games" she happily sold me both games because I told her I wanted to play them. Best day ever, still have both copies
