In a game like Saints Row or Dragon's Dogma where there's clothing and customization involved, I'd say it was because It's more fun to dress up a girl than a guy because there are typically more options that'll look good on a girl, but for other games I just have no idea. A part of me feels self-conscious and embarrassed about it.
