>What went wrong?

Ken Levine.

Many people say it was unfinished and rushed, but that isn't the case. Many interviews and delay announcements point to "different direction" in terms of story. Ken Levine backtracked during development, not happy with the story as he wanted to tell a specific one.
Here's a list of things BI would've have if they didn't change development before its final delay announcement.
All base on interviews and early footage
>dynamic weather
>possible open world
>choices that will effect story drastically(Ex.Taking Liz to Paris or not)
>dynamic events (Ex. Structures falling)
>Varient levels
>Dark tone like prior shock games
>the Time Travel would've serve a greater purpose in terms of story and gameplay
>bossss with the Bird would've been dynamic (dynamic was a huge focus as you can see) you can either hide from it or chip away health through the whole game

Shame too. Love the setting, if only they just stick with what they had...

I always thought of it as bio as in biography, since the protag of every game gets a 'shock' to his bio as he find out more about his past.

Quite possibly the worst game I ever payed.

Mediocre to bad by its own gameplay merits, made many times worse since it was such a huge step back from earlier games in the series rather than moving forward.

But even the shit gameplay pales compared to the story and writing, and that is saying something.

I pirated it and still feel like I was ripped off.

This is why Bioshock 2 is the best of the Bioshocks despite the mediocre writing.

I tend to avoid obviously bad games, it's true. Perhaps time has dulled my memory of mediocre and bad games I've played in the past.

I seriously can't think of one worse than Bioshock Infinite. I hate it more than any other game.

The badness that separates Bioshock Infinite apart from other games goes beyond mere mechanics. The game's writing is so bad and annoying and offensive that it is beyond compare. Through the terrible, terrible writing and plot and characters the game transcends merely being mediocre or even bad. It becomes something truly, truly infuriatingly terrible.
>>
>>344358769
I don't like horror games so B1 wasn't fun. B2 was just pure shit, no one likes it. BI was pretty good with the best escort companion ever and a pretty okay plot.
>>
>>344358858
Once you revive once in Bioshock 1 then any threat thereafter is gone. The patch helped this at least, but Bioshock 2 lets you turn them off at the beginning.

Bioshock 2 can be pretty unsettling with Brute and the updated Spider Splicers, and Big Sisters and the like as well.

I'm more interesting in the fun gameplay and Bioshock 2 improves on Bioshock 1 in every way in that department.
>>
>>344352390

Polishing the gameplay of the first one is about the only thing it did right.
Everything else felt like bad fan fiction that went places the original was too smart and self aware not to go.
What made the original good for me was the setting and atmosphere, gameplay and mechanics were already a (sort of retarded and immersion breaking at times) step down from System Shock 2, so polishing what was already just a concolized version of a better thing didn't really make it a worthy sequel and I'd rather play Infinite over it.

Issues with the story have been discussed to death. My biggest problem was how they handled weapons and weapon upgrades. You can upgrade a particular weapon, then run out of ammo. You are forced to pick up another, which doesn't have any upgrades, and you are unable to go back to the weapon you upgraded until you find it again. That is such a monumentally stupid decision.

Why does that building fall?
Why does Booker sounds like he's 60?

Why does so much of this look like a cutscene and not gameplay?
Why are there still people in the bar having fun after a massive explosion?
What would've happened if the player rushed to where Elizabeth was before they had time to group to that spot?
What if Booker missed throwing that thing at the bridge, or at the rubble?

So was the Siphon just recycled assets from when Liz was probably the source of salts and vigors?

Because it doesn't do a fucking thing. It doesn't limit her powers a single bit because she opens a goddamn tear to Paris inside the thing.

And if you look at the power chart thing at the entrance of the Siphon it clearly shows that her power went down a little bit, then the siphon was installed after that, then her power started going up exponentially again. The Siphon literally does nothing at all in the build of the game we got.

And then there is this retarded "mini siphon" trap in New Emporia or whatever that place is with the fucking stupid quantum-ghost-necromancer-mom. What the fuck Levine.

And then a Siphon was destroyed five dimensions adjacent to the one we were in originally and this somehow makes Liz a time god. A siphon that Liz was never exposed to in that dimension. But when the Siphon in the starting universe is torn apart by Songbird Liz doesn't get the power boost for reasons.

And how does all this shittery with Siphons and Liz powerlevels work with "Future Liz" who was somehow mysteriously de-powered drastically. But is still somewhat in charge of everything. And she knows about the Songbird whistle and everything and didn't bother to destroy her universe's Siphon to regain her power and become a god.

Also since they went back to salts and vigors being based on the same slug shit as Bioshock 1 and 2, how the fuck did Fink make fucking massive amounts of tonics and vigors without a single drop of ADAM? He isn't even a fucking scientist and he completely outsmarted all of Rapture's best and brightest by having unlimited production with zero ADAM required. This fucking removes the entire reason that Big Daddies and Little Sisters were created in the first fucking place, which also completely fucking dismantles the story of everything else.

What the fuck do you mean, how can opinions be wrong? Opinions are wrong all the time. What you were trying to ask is how it can be false to state a preference, which is NOT WHAT YOU DID.

There's a million things wrong with Infinite, but the fact that people nitpick over it isn't the problem. Those nitpicks mostly just stem from how the game just really wants to be serious and realistic in the content it wants to depict (or so the hype around it claims to say), which has a knock-on effect with people being forced to scrutinize every last moment. Every piece of media has moments of fallibility in them; nothing is perfect, after all. The problem is when we're actively made to pay attention to all of this for one reason or another.

Not to mention how this game came out so close to Last of Us, and how both these games seem to have the exact same plot.

Personally, my biggest gripes are three things: A world with ill-defined and often broken dimension-hopping rules, tainting the best parts of Bioshock 1 for the sake of fanservice, and how the entire game just seems to collapse around making Elizabeth seem super-special-awesome and important at the cost of everything.

That is incorrect.

>played the game at launch, loved it
>it's not the best game I ever played but it was a fun ride and worth the adventure, I can nitpick here and there but the pros far outweigh the cons
>go on /v/
>even years later, I get to read the resentment of those who put astronomical expectations on the game and never got over it, whose testimonials sound like the game scarred them for life or something

Never gets old.

How could you be so wrong
>>
The narrative was shit, the mechanics were mediocre and the mechanics weren't designed to support the narrative
>>
>>344365993
Sorry anon, but it was just a bad game.
>>
>>344361350
Why? Sure, it's like Deus Ex: Invisible War in how the game's entire existence is just stupid, but the game itself is exactly as you get on the cover, with nothing really taken out and a small amount of improvements, like your standard expansion packs.
>>
>>344356929
but where does rain come from
>>
>>344366130
Okay, the nitpicks stem from how pretentious the game sounds from the hype.
>>
>>344366134

How is this any different from the other Bioshocks then? Do throwing bees and hitting Bid Daddies with wrenches support anything Andrew Ryan says? Why didn't Andrew Ryan come back using a Vita Chamber?
>>
Oh and another thing.

The fucking retarded random clothing system is a complete downgrade from the passive plasmid systems of Bioshock 1 and 2.

You cannot make any builds because you have no fucking clue what types of clothing you will obtain. And some of them are absolutely broken like the invulnerability ones.

We can plainly see clothing merchant stalls throughout the game but they are all conveniently broken. Every single one of them in Columbia.
>>
>>344365993
I just think it's shit. Didn't have high expectations
>>
>>344366429
At least there were enemies in Bioshock 1 that used tonics, as well as the fact that everyone in this game being a crazy mutant bullet sponge is because of all the science magic, whereas in Infinite they're just crazy for no reason besides "LOL Racism"
>>
>>344366429
>Why didn't Andrew Ryan come back using a Vita Chamber?

Because he wanted to prove a point, the crazy git. He turned the vita-chamber in his office off.
>>
>>344366429
The throwing bees part does since it from people being free to experment with whatever they want now.

Did you play the game?
>>
Look, the game sucks. We can all agree on that. The gameplay is a downgrade from Bioshock 1, and the story is a complete mess. But if you can't think of specifics, or if you just want to make a list of nitpicks, then calm the fuck down, because all you're gonna do is make your point look worse.
>>
>>344352390
I genuinely liked it, I didn't know about the beta until I finished the game and I can see why many people hate it, but why did the company close down was it Ken Levine wanting a new start, 2K fucking them over because of Infinite or what
>>
>>344367342
We can't be for certain. But it does just look like the company just really didn't want there to be another Bioshock game that wasn't made by them.
>>
>>344366913

Yeah, and its clear that despite the story being as good as it is, the gameplay and the emphasis on Adam and plasmids was the priority all along, and the narrative is meant to support the mechanics and not the other way around.

>Had no expectations for it since I didn't care about the series in general

>Came back the next day, playing it on 1999 mode, came to absolutely hate it because I was actually paying attention to shit and the game's aesthetic didn't wow me anymore

>Play Bioshock 2 a year later and realize just how far backward Infinite went
>>
so uh what happens to all the other elizabeths when you start dimension hopping around wily nily

and how does being dead in one universe cause you to get brainfucked in a completely separate one

Uh, why do we have to make a scene whenever this game comes up?

This!

Once I got Security Command 3 on my second playthrough, I actually managed to keep the same two companion bots through the entire last third of the game (well, almost). Loved my little robots.

When you're fully upgraded with Telekinesis 3 and have Eleanor, two super-bots, and an Alpha/Brute by your side, it's the best thing ever. I loved how the endgame godmode tied into the dynamic enemy and environment that the game did so well.

At the start of the game, the bots, big sisters, and brutes are your enemies, but you could make them fight each other. At the end, they're your personal army.

Elizabeth is an anime character confirmed

Elizabeth seemed to be designed with the sole purpose of making players fall in love with her, rather than being designed with any sort of logic to her personality and situations.

He could've at least consulted a scientist first.
In that game quantum mechanics was basically magic.
