Thinking of playing SS 1+2
any tips for mods/fan patches/ etc?
>>344352689
I'm playing another game right now, Legend of Grimrock 2 and don't want to stop, but I have a burning desire to play GMDX for a stealth run and see how it changes things, never tried it.
I just don't like the HDTP models but I heard you can turn that off

>>344357041
I'm not a fan of the story of HR so much. The whole aug debate seems a bit dumb to be, as if only Sarif can make the augs, and how nobody can make the counterfeit drug that aug people need. it just seem like a forced theme, the first game tackled on all kinds of things in a much better way.
Also still being before the nanoaug era sounds boring, they keep making those mechanical augs look 100 times better than nanoaugs. I guess it's the cheap way to reuse Adam and so on, but going back to nanoaug with a side story, avoiding JC/UNATCO could've been great.

>>344359784
>on my PC
It performs badly on every PC, no matter how powerful your comp is, loading times take 15-20 seconds every time. In a game with small as fuck levels where you need to move between them all the time, that's a fucking problem.
After replaying Deus Ex I'm inclined to say that Human Revolution is the better game overall. I really don't remember the gameplay being as clunky as it is. The dialogue is really hit or miss too. I love Bob Page's voice actor, but holy shit everyone in Hong Kong sounds like utter shit.

>>344352824
https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=802.0 for SS1
SS2 has some nice graphical mods, just don't overdo them and don't get fucking Rebirth.
>>344361882
Well that's how it worked for me, I was glued to a chest high wall in first person and the enemy alert markers popped up, if I sticked to cover in 3rd person I got no alerts.
Also I hated the takedowns, at least let me aim my punches to knock this guy out, how hard can that be. I don't want to watch the character doing it, I want to do it myself like the first game allowed. if they could develop even further, and make hitboxes, say for a tranquilizer dart, hitting the neck is the most effective part instead of the chest, arms or top of the head, this could be pretty nice.
>>344362528
How odd.
I will agree with you on the takedowns though, they take you out of the first person and seemingly pause time.
I suppose making the takedowns first person and realtime would fix that. Though I'd much rather have an actual melee weapon system, though not exactly like deus ex 1's since those always felt off outside of GMDX.
>>344362246
I hope the System Shock 3 that Warren Spector and some people who are from Looking Glass turns out to be great, I enjoyed SS2, and I don't hold anything against Spector.
>>344363357
I love both games and I'm worried. The remake looks like it might have a lot of problems, and we know almost nothing about SS3. I still have hope, though.
>>344362931
if they don't want to add a baton and such, they could let you "equip" your armblades and fists. hit the back of the head of an enemy with your fists = knock out, hit them with the blades means dead, perhaps hold the button for a stronger bunch/stab
>>344363513
I heard the remake of SS1 is taking elements of SS2, while the first game is more of a shooter, I can't tell because I haven't played the first SS, might fix that thing out with the enhanced edition that is already out, but have they released anything about System Shock 3 project? Are their main guys working on SS3 while their B team does the SS1 remake?
Sounds like a lot of work for a small team.
Yeah, rip.
>>344364237
>Are their main guys working on SS3 while their B team does the SS1 remake?
Nobody know, really. And that's what gets me worried. I played the SS1 Remake Demo and the team seems to have a huge fucking hard-on for SS2. Inventory is more like SS2, the upbeat music is replaced with ambience, it feels more horror than action. And this is coming from somebody who's beaten SS1 and SS2as of today.
>>344364237
Night Dive Studios is working on the SS1 remake while a team from Otherside Entertainment is working on SS3.

>>344364671

Oh. Where does that leave Warren Spector, then? Is he just working on the SS1 remake? Or both?
>>344364845
He's working on SS3 and doing something for Underworld Ascendant but I can't remember what.
Let me guess
Another thread where people complain about how poor the gunplay feels because they only played the first few missions
>>344364953
>He's working on SS3
Thank god. I was worried he'd be working on the SS1 remake and not SS3 or some shit. SS3 is a lot more important then some remake which might not even be good, and we already have the original game which is fine as is.
>>344364845
Warren is Otherside so he's SS3 and Underworld.
I'm sure he's giving input into SS1 Remake since they're so close and he helped make the original.
>RPG Site: I have to ask this, as an old-school fan... you're obviously still a prequel. How are you connecting with the original game this time around? Are you thinking a lot about that, or just focused on telling the story you want to tell?
>Mary DeMarle: [laughs] I've thought about it a lot! You can't not think about it. You knew through Human Revolution that it was a prequel. We're in this timeline and in Human Revolution we're 25 years away from the original; we want to put in things because we know where we're going. I've thought about it a lot because I really like the idea that... well, you think you know where you're going... but history is written by the winners. In 2052, you play and you hear about the past through the eyes of the winners.
>For me the really exciting thing is, we know where we're going. We have stakes in the ground and characters that are very important that'll have to play a part - but how do we get there? By allowing you to play the timeline we may actually change your understanding. When you get to that final point, you might be saying, 'Wow, I had no idea... the facts are true, but the experience itself is different.' So, I've thought about it a lot.
what did she mean by this
Do Revision and GMDX work with old saves or will I have to start again?
>>344365321

>>344365172
Thanks for putting my mind at ease, anon. I care a lot more about SS3 than the SS1 Remake. If the Remake turns out to be shit, it's not the end of the world. If SS3 turns out to be shit, I'll be crying myself to sleep for the rest of my life.

>>344365258
the prequels are so distant from the original game that they have a lot of artistic freedom but they have an end goal(s) in mind so they can make something decent
>>344365636
it's mostly just knives, cigarettes and the occasional candy bar
>>344359979
I still have no idea why it does that.
What benefit could it possibly have?
>>344363513
The demo of the remake was pretty good, considering it's more of a proof of concept than anything else. The game is clearly far from being finished.
>>344366051
They should just make a game distant from the original's content, make a game entirely away from the US, without having to focus much on JC/Unatco. Make a game that happens in Paris/Tokyo/London or something like that. In that way they can tell a side story without having to fit into the original's story, while also giving them plenty of freedom to create new characters and expanding the universe's story.
The fact that the GEP Gun trivializes every boss fight in the game makes it one of my favorites of all time.
>>344364552
>Nobody know, really.
That's wrong. It's actually really simple. Night Dive Studios, the new owners of the IP, are making the remake of SS1, and they've commissioned Otherside Entertainment, the studio with the Looking Glass devs, to make SS3.
>>344366164
Probably some failsafe/hack to clear the memory to avoid some oddities from occurring. It was a console port to begin with so some issues probably developed from there
>>344366771
what's the relationship between Looking Glass and the Ion Storm that created Deus Ex?
>>344366859
As far as I can tell, just Warren Spector and maybe a few minor people.
>>344364829
Literally me. Liberty Island killed my hype a few times, but after I made that push, I had some of the most fun I've ever had. HR is good but OG is phenomenal.
>>344367287
why do people hate the liberty island mission so much?
I always thought it was a great show of options, multiple routes of infiltration, a nice tutorial mission of sorts.
>>344366771

>>344367710

>>344367621
I don't know. It's not a poor representation of the rest of the game. But it's decorated as one of the best games of all time, but there's a lot of stuff that feels a bit like jank by today's standards.
>>344367621
I've heard complaints about having to wait for aiming if you don't dump your starting points into a single combat skill, but there's a barely hidden laser sight early in the level that gives you pinpoint accuracy on a single weapon.
>>344367710
Shouldn't they finish Underworld first?
>>344367621
It functions perfectly as a way of teaching the player that there are a vast array of approaches to your objectives, but it's still pretty difficult for newer players. I personally think that's a good thing.
>>344367894

>>344369357
>>344369254
It's also really quality so people latch onto the silly bits more due to the contrast. They may also want to keep memories of the game that get brought back up to the surface as you view the meme related to the subject matter.

>>344378248
Is the stamina bar a good change? Not sure how I feel about it, never played GMDX
>>344378341
There's an installer without New Vision. There's a way to get rid of the HDTP models too iirc.
>>344378364
I don't, Because when I run out of ammo for a rocket launcher I don't want to fucking run out of ammo for a SMG
>>344378409
I don't really notice it since I think it's mainly for balancing mantling which I have disabled.
>>344378527
oh so it doesn't affect melee weapons?
>>344378607
It does take up a bit of stamina but I've never ran out since bashing people in the back of the head only takes one hit.
Is this going to be shit?
Starting my first run of this game finally after watching that cool SDGQ run. Gonna do melee/stealth since I love that in these types of games.
>>344378743
I don't see how it could be worse than HR (Not saying HR is bad, I mean they're improving on stuff from HR so I don't see it being a worse game)
>>344378743
I expect it to be Human Revolution 1.5
It will still have takedowns and problems the other game had, I suppose.
>>344378840
Yeah, really wish it had a real melee system. Devs post here, wish they listened about that
>>344378743
Looks like more HR which I didn't really like that much. The QTE takedowns were lame and third person cover stealth is cancer.
>>344378910
It's so simple, just let players use fists as a melee weapon, and same goes for the blade things.
>>344378840
At least the takedowns look less flashy and you can do them from cover and such.
>>344379067
they should be removed entirely, they're inherently shit
>>344379037
Cmon now. It's not a qte
>>344378743
>barely shown anything
>six month delay
>somewhat subdued marketing
Don't be too surprised if he ends up being a genuine trainwreck.
>>344379390
>Delays are bad
When will this meme end?
>>344379257
He's not entirely wrong, it's Press Q for downing an enemy, where you watch a short cutscene of your character doing something nice, instead of doing it yourself.
Fuck life
>>344379574
It's a button prompt not a quick time event
>>344379574
its a context sensitive action actually
QTEs are under the same catagory but a QTE requires you to do it under a time limit and has a fail state attached to it
>>344379787
He was referring to a key press not, not a QTE.
>>344379483
>game wasn't on schedule and needs triple the time it had left
m8 it's better than releasing it but it doesn't tend to bode well
>>344379787
>>344379872
the difference is that you don't have a time limit to do it, but in practice both are mechanics that offer less player agency than 25 year old games, you just watch stuff happening that is doable in game
>>344380091
its still misinformation
no one is arguing that they were lame just giving you the correct name for them
>>344379962
You'd have a point if this was an indie studio. But it's a game developer owned by a giant publisher, who do you think sets the dead lines? The developer may give them a general idea, but the publisher has the final say and can lessen the time they need. People complain about bugs and unfinished games then complain about delays. They're working on an entirely new engine and new technology like DX12 is hitting the market
Witcher 3 was also delayed and turned out fine
>>344380335
Also they're doing every version In house instead of giving the PC or console versions off to another company. The PC version also isn't a port of the console build

Thanks for the help. I managed to get it to work with Kentie's launcher and direst3D9.
>JC Denton will never be your daddy
I've played DX vanilla and with Biomod, how is revision? Does it do anything besides grafix?
oh my god JC a bomb
>>344357879
>Adam causing MJ12 to take over the illuminati?
Maybe? Didn't they start their little takeover in 2030? And MD takes place in 2029, could be autumnWhat I want to know is if Bob starts his Psionics project during this time, or in 2050. They can't just drop "psi agents" in the first game and not have us meet one. I'm itching for some metal vs mind shit here
>>344382745
JC was also born in 2029 IIRC
>>344382937
Yep, Paul was 7 during that time I think? I also remember in the first game that Paul said their parents "wouldn't be proud of our augs", so maybe their parents had augs too? Or they were in the thick of it when every aug went crazy

Your appointment to FEMA should be finalized within the week. I've already discussed the matter with the Senator.
>>344367621
It's everyone initial exposure to the game, so most new players associate the clunky gunplay and dated graphics with Liberty Island specifically. The game has a fairly steep learning curve and the first level just drops you in and lets you go nuts - that can be intimidating as well.
I wonder if they'll ever make another game in the series that isn't complete shit.
The hatch code is 2112311213112112312313231323313133213333231331323133111313333.
Watch for the Karkian, though.

>>344360084
I agree, but the sad thing is, /v/ will agree too in 5 years
But only because it will be filled with babbies that didn't actually ever play the first game
Guess while I'm here I might as well Human Revolution was worse than Invisible War and that is the meanest thing I can say about it but at least I could stand to finish Invisible War.

The only real downfalls of HR were the boss fights, load times. It was a great game other than that
