Think I read somewhere that Excalibur II was functionally impossible to get in the PAL version for some reason. Without cheats anyway.

It's possible, but significantly harder. Most of the game runs at 5/6s the rate of the NTSC version, but the internal clock runs the same speed. This means you effectively have 2 less hours to pull it off.
