Bad graphics?
Maybe, colors and textures are too simplsitic. Then again, its a launch title, you can't compare something like SMB to Sunsoft's batman games or journey to silius or many other games that had excellent pixel art on the NES.
Its also the reason Super Mario World looks pale compared to Yoshi's Island (it used the SFX chip, i know. Point is, launch titles will look inferior to games that are released later on the same console)

I never liked the style of SMB3, it looks boring and bland. Unlike Yoshi's Island or SMB2 (the doki doki one)

I don't like Yoshi's island, it's visually appealing but too fucking cluttered for my taste.
I gotta agree on SMB2, but even SMB:the lost level is a nice remix of the original graphics that already improves on them.
Also SMW is quite ugly again, a bit on the flat side.
I think that the genesis sonic games had the best compromise between looks and clearness
