Squall is an introvert to distance himself from people emotionally so he'd be less likely to get hurt.
Seifer is an extrovert as he wants people to notice and praise him but it causes him to get in to shitty situations and act dickish.
Squall locks people which causes them to be drawn to him. Seifer gravitates towards people which cause them to be repelled. Back to the Future ain't got nothin to do with it. Seifer didn't even fall in poop. He was happy at the end of the game even after him and Squall balanced out their shit.

The Orphanage scene I can deal with. Many movies/games/tv shows pull the same 'we knew each other as kids' cliche so I can overlook that.
What I can't overlook is how conveniently it fit into the story. There's 3 different GARDENS across the world, with untold numbers of students in each one. Something like 5,000 students and SeeDs in each garden. Yet the orphanage only housed 7 people....5 of your party members, Seifer and Ellone. And they want us to believe that after growing up and forgetting each other, all of those same people were the most crucial in the story and became party members again. A little tough to swallow.

While the scene blew my mind as a kid, it does seem lazy now. But I always kind of looked at as the whole "twin thing"
Like there was an experiment where twins were separated at birth, but observed. They essentially lived the same lives (interests, careers, ect), but just in different locations.
The GFs suppressed their memories, but maybe not their instincts and the emotions that rubbed off on eachother during childhood. They all wanted to be great things while at the orphanage, and they did exceed at their respected studies. It wasn't until Squall crossed paths with them they all came together, because maybe they felt the powerful, familiar kinship with him whether they knew it or not. Like maybe Selphie and Irvine might have left the group after their tasks were done but some subconscious friendship stuff kept them around.

I'm currently playing FFVIII again. I haven't even used card mod or any tricks. And I'm still running around with 4,000 HP on Squall just with the base magic I'm drawn from people. I just fought Rajin/Fujin in the hotel and they were doing 300 damage per hit. I tanked them for 10 minutes while I drew a full set of thundaga, cura and fira from them.
At the point I'm at now, I could easily take Seifer alone. By Disk 3, when I have Aura and crap, I'll probably kill him in 1-2 turns.

Would it have been better if they got rid of the GF memory thing, but kept the growing up in an orphanage bit. Revealing it at the same point in pretty much the same way (maybe hinting at it very very subtley before), but just have everyone use Irvine's "I did remember I thought we just weren't mentioning it to stay professional" excuse.

I don't remember the specifics, but I think there were some very specific people that were part of this card group that you had to play with and stuff at certain points, which was the only way to get special cards of characters and stuff. Edea might have been the queen, but if you do things right then the group of people will be on the Ragnarok at the end of the game so you can potentially get any card if you lost/refine it.
Regardless, if you don't have a guide you're unlikely to get it. It's even more bullshit than the Zodiac Spear.

GF's are sorta rare. Not everyone has one, and you need one if you want to take the SeeD Exam. Squall's test for gaining entry to the SeeD exam was defeating/acquiring Ifrit. I assume everyone had a different test.So every SeeD has GF, that's why they are such a force within the world stage.

You're 'summoning' the GF. So basically others can do it as well. Of course, this logic breaks down since that would imply every character on your party can junction with all GFs at the same time. And of course, they don't let you do that.

The CC Club is easy as fuck, you just find the right people in the correct sequence and kick their asses. As far as the Card queen goes, you don't even have to bother with that shit until disk 4. The only card worth repeatedly refining is Gilgamesh for the holy wars.
If you're complaining about rules, the guy at Balamb town's dock resets any rules you're playing with, and if you keep the card queen at Balamb town you can just use her to set the win rule to 'all' each time.

I believe a GF uses a section of your mind to act as a summoning conduit. That section is basically what fucks up the long term memory of a summoner. It's likely that unless it's just a gameplay mechanic, that a GF can only be used by one person at a time and Ifrit happened to be the best possible test for Squall at the time.

The problem with your logic is that bosses use GFs on you while you have them equipped. Or you fight GFs themselves. Also, that whole 'final exam' with Ifrit. If hundreds of SeeDs had to defeat Ifrit as a final test, then how can only one person use Ifrit at a time? And if someone is using Ifrit, can no one take the test at that time?
Just admit that junctioning itself doesn't make sense from a story standpoint. This comes from someone who likes the system for gameplay means. But it doesn't stand up to even basic logic.
