The Painful was great, but the Joyful spits in the face of what made The Painful so great.
It was great finding party members and going through the different zones. Fun music (if a bit cacophonous at times), great designs, and serviceable gameplay both inside and outside of combat. The game is definitely tragic, yet it is still able to get plenty of laughs. A fun ride throughout.
The Joyful lacks all of this. The game misses out by effectively removing party members, humor is near non-existent, and promised mechanics (mask system for example) don't really add much to the experience. Designs are still great, but the game only serves to give closure to the fans.
There was nothing wrong with the Painful, maybe some balancing issues (Birdie is numero uno), but the game is fucking solid.
