My theory is still that Gohda did it.
He was about to bring in a nice special brand of coffee to the parents who were discussing the epitaph. He'd just missed them, but saw them outside through the window. Curious, he followed them.
Once inside, he kept his distance as things were getting quite heated. He overheard Beatrice about the bank card, the gold and the time bomb.
He had his plan.
He stumbled in and spilled the coffee all over the place, startling the parents. He made an act of stumbling all the way to the weapons on the table and grabbed a Winchester and cold-heartedly shot every single one of the parents before they could even arm themselves.
Scene plays out much like the Kyrie/Rudolf scenario where he calls everyone else in to the chapel and shoots them.
Grabs the bank card and a couple of ingots and sets the bomb, ready for a lifetime of satisfaction.

It's what I love about Higurashi and Umineko. I just wish he would stop publishing these shitty side-stories and focus on another 8-part series which will have 4chan's panties wet for years like Higurashi and especially Umineko.
Remember Umineko threads back when they were being released? Remember waiting for The Witch Hunt to translate the new EPs? Discussing theories? I miss those times and I wish Ryu-chan would focus more on another unique work like that. God knows he's got the talent. He can even draw hands properly now, sort of

I enjoyed the anime for what it was. It got me into the series and I respect it for that.
But DEEN, or any other studio for that matter, could never do justice to Chiru. It's such a magnificent clusterfuck that you could not possibly condence into a 2 cour anime.
Now with a great budget and 4-6 cours it could be done. But they'd have to re-do the original anime as well.
Who knows, if the Steam version sells well we might just get another anime. Umineko still seems very popular in Japan, they love their murder mysteries.
>>
>>344333373
True that, but to be honest Chiru would be much better than the first series in anime format. All those metaworld fights would have been great.

>steam sales as a metric for anime
Nah. Steam sales don't represent blu-ray sales, which are the name of the game. At the very most it represents some western interest, but nothing about a 'trigger' for a new 6 cour animu

>>344333791
Wait they don't like it? I guess this explains why there isn't 10 million offshoot and one off arcs like Higurashi
>>
>>344333697
The fights would be great, yes. Which is why I want this to happen, but also to do the original work justice. DEEN's version was really bad in retrospect. Like I said, it got me into Umineko so I do like it, but it just wasn't that good. I'd like to see another studio take on the project. Maybe with Ryu-chan serving as advisor.

>>344333791
What on earth gave you that idea? I don't like to speak for a whole culture but Japan really loves mysteries. Most of their best-selling books and most-viewed dramas are murder mysteries. And Umineko has shitloads of merchandise. What gave you the idea that the Japanese don't like Umineko?
>>
>>344333987
>steam sales as a metric for anime
That was more hope than actual belief. I just want Ryu-chan to realise there is a market out there in the West for WTC. Whether that's a new WTC series or an anime is beside the point. We will never ever see a Chiru anime, I firmly believe that, but I would still like to live in hope.
>>
>>344334702
We all live in hope that Japan actually begins to export things that Westerns want.

One day it will come true.
>>
Always had this anime on my backlog didn't know there were games too. Whats the anime like? Might give that a try while I work today
>>
>>344334380
With the amount of details that Umineko has, not only would they have to redo the first series too but it would need to have much more than 26 episodes.

Higurashi adaptation kind of worked with 26 because it has a lot of parody moments that were irrelevant and could be cut. This is not so true in Umineko.
>>
>>344334876
The anime only covers half of the entire story so I wouldn't recommend it.

The manga covers the whole thing and reveals a bit more information than the visual novel, but lacks the great soundtrack.

Probably their reaction the anime, which is understandable. Doesn't mean they hate the source material though.

It's pretty much the same situation Danganronpa is in. The anime was so poorly received that they just gave up bothering with the 2nd game and just went on to anime-only specials.
>>
>>344335056
True. Umineko Core would need as much as 8 episodes per EP. And Chiru would need a full cour per EP. It'll never happen though, sadly.

No more than 18.

>She never said that first six people in ep.3 died on the night of the first twilight, right?
I think she did.

I'd avoid threads until you've read through ep5.
>>
>>344347464
My idea is that, if the red does not confirm that all 6 victims on ep.3 fist twilight died on the same night then it was possible to mask Kinzo's true time of death by burning his corpse and in fact he could have died ages ago, that fact concealed by Krauss and Co. This way there can be a "19th" person on the island without contradicting the red truth. I was so mad when Battler folded to Eva's attack later in the episode precisely because I thought that was a plausible and rather inviting explanation.

I would avoid threads but I have a big urge to discuss it as well. I'd try to be careful.
>>
>>344347864
I think I remember everyone except Natsuhi, Krauss and George was confirmed dead with red before Eva announced the rest.

But maybe it was only Shannon that was confirmed dead at the start.
>>
>>344347864
Nevermind, she did not in fact say that they died during the first twilight.
I'll say that you're sort of on the right track.
>>
>>344348448
Beato confirmed all victims of the first twilight to be dead, she just didn't say "when" did they die.

Also, I am super interested if Battler's guess about the first twilight's solution in ep.3 is correct - maybe for once he won't be a useless scrub?

>>344348521
That makes me feel good anon, thank you. I will just scan for pictures and avoid spoilers, I enjoy the game too much to be spoiled. So far I have quite a few theory and the only thing I have to worldly clue about it the ep.1 second twilight and most of the later ep.2 murders.

God I love Umineko. I can't imagine how was it to wait and speculate for it when it was released/translated.

Doesn't matter, really. With voices, without. Original art, updated art. Any is fine. Don't know about the steam version.
>>
>>344349021
It can be confusing.
Once you get a copy of the first four episodes which all come together, go to umitweak if you want the ps3 voices and sprites. I highly recommend experiencing it with the voices.
This cannot be done with the Steam release currently.
>>
>>344349021
All the different version are mostly mods to the original version. The Steam version doesn't have mods yet, but it's probably only a matter of time.

The version released on Steam today is an updated translation of the old fan translation. The old fan translation was super literal because the series was still ongoing at the time and they didn't want to miss important clues that may have been hidden in the text, with the new translation improving that and trying to make it flow more naturally.

Not yet, but it's mentioned here:
https://forum.rokkenjima.org/t/an-announcement-by-the-witch-hunts-usagitenpura-regarding-uminekos-upcoming-steam-release/380

"True, the puzzles as a whole can be answered with our first translation, but in Ryuukishi's own words, there are "treasure chests" hidden throughout the series for people paying attention. Many of these treasure chests end up being at least as important as the main story, and we ended up crushing several of them. A few were outright translation errors, though most probably couldn't have been translated without guessing an answer first."

"To rectify this, the Witch Hunt has put in more hours this past year than any previous one in the history of our team. Building this Steam version involved editing more than 75% of the lines in the original translation (almost 90% in EP1) and well over 3,000 images for HD support. And that's even before the Mangagamer pass that included drastic improvements to every chapter. Nearly all of the text changes were to bring our paranoid, hyper-literal translation more in line with what we had in Rose Guns Days, getting the scenes to actually read well instead of worrying about every conceivable loophole that might be hiding a clue we didn't know about. Unfortunately, if nearly every line doesn't sound quite right, the chances of you noticing something that's supposed to sound strange are pretty darn small.
Also, we've had some practice since then."

Is Higurashi at least remotely as good as Umineko? Which sprites should I use?
>>
>>344353982
I liked it more in some ways, I like the ending a lot more, too.
>>
>>344353982
yes but for different reasons
any sprites will do, my favorite are the ps2 sprites

Anyone know if that current PS3 project (thats at like EP3 right now) uses a different translation?
>>
>>344352126
Google umitweak for the PS3 assets.
I think the game can be found on the usual site to download.
Otherwise, it seems like mangagamer is the only place I can find a legal copy, the old dl-site disappeared.

>>344355323
Wait the mangagamer version is incompatible with the umitweak stuff so forget that.

Check what the anon here >>344335341 and here >>344337942 posted. It's a full port of the PS3 release, which includes updated artwork and voice acting, to PC. So far it's been completed up to the third episode, with the fourth coming pretty soon now.

However, if it's possible for you, do consider purchasing the original game through Steam or any other means in order to support 07th Expansion.
