great game. the best in the franchise. easily one of the top jrpgs around. I actually replayed 1 and 2 about 6 months ago. had a blast. love both.

play it if you haven't already. G1 starts slow but it gets better and better.

also the spots where you can heal your party/save...go ahead and let enemies hit you then cast heal, then go to these spots to replenish your mp. a good way to grind your healing abilities early on. on the other hand...you may not want to do this because the game isn't hard at all.
>>

its good but the battles are slow, annoying, and almost impossible to avoid. just like every other PS1 JRPG
>>
I spent hours grinding for Feena's ultimate attack

Wasn't really worth it
>>
Going back to that era, there's an annoying slowness in most gen 5 RPGs. And it's not jut about PS1 CD loading, it feels like most aspects of the gameplay take more time than necessary with its low responsiveness, lengthy animations, crawling text etc.
>>
>>344313051
Saturn version is better, too bad I can't emulate that on a handheld.
>>
Of the JRPGs I've played, it's probably my favourite.

Steam release when.
>>
>>344315837
It's understandable that developers wanted to make flashy 1000 year long animations, seeing as how it was the first 3d generation and nothing of that type had been possible before
>>
>>344313051
One of the last JRPGs that were all about having fun adventures. While generally having the same adventurous feeling, Lunar games had darker stories in comparison.
>>
>>344316423
Sometimes it went way overboard though.

probably because they were figuring it out but you can't discount that games were simply slower paced in general. you didn't look to constantly alt-tab because you were engaged for 10 seconds or something like people do today. although, it's probably just coping with 3d because I remember suikoden 1 and 2 being blazingly fast in every respect.

>>344321921
I had the prima guide too (don't any more) and it was pretty good. I fapped to the map picture with Justin and Feena in the tent many times. My version was actually misprinted and there was a supplement in the back that had corrections about the last part of the book. They blamed it on General Baal or something.
Here's a neat map that's in the guide I have. I wish I had a high resolution copy.

Are any of the game arts talents still in the gaming industry?

When I got the guide, I spent about 10 minutes looking at the map. I love all those old world maps with sea monsters and stuff in them.

I'd try to make a scan of it, but I'd have to ruin the book and the printing is pretty bad.

I have to go now, if the thread is still up in 2 hours or so I'll post more pictures.

>and how exactly does the gameplay work, real time stuff looks complicated.
I'm gonna try to sum it up best I can. So you have this bar at the bottom right of the screen the enemies head and your parties head are sliding along the bar until it gets to the act part. After that both you and your enemies can attack and move and such. A good part of Grandia's gameplay is preventing enemies from getting to the act bar.

>>
>>344315837
And yet they are much better than the hot garbage we have nowadays. I'm playing 7th saga right now on my other monitor and having a fucking blast while the handholdy modern garbage they call RPGs nowadays, which are just glorified adventure games, can't keep me entertained enough to give a crap about them.

These games had a neat sense of adventure and they had tons of secret and optional stuff hidden away without any indication to them. Nowadays everything has an arrow pointing where you should go and the game is always telling you "go here, retard". Don't even start me on games like assasin's creed or witcher 3 that have a Press X To See Everything Relevant So You Can Ignore The Rest Of The World mechanic, just don't.

>>344336253
If you are fan of the series, yes. Story and characters aren't so memorable but they are ok and closer to the feeling of the first game (Grandia 2 is kinda edgy for me), the graphics and soundtrack are great (from the most beautiful games for PS2) and the gameplay is the best of the series and with better challenging at its difficulty (Grandia 1's difficulty was medium to easy).

And this gal is one of my biggest loves in video games.

I think the third's problem is that they tried too hard to recapture the "fuck yeah! adventure" attitude Justin had, but overdid it and made it too cringy.

Justin was cringy, but in a good way. It reflected his immaturity.

No, when you board the steamer ship.

First off, they set it up at the beginning of the game as a far off goal, and then give you just enough time between setting it up and it actually happening.
Then they break the connection with home by ditching Sue and leaving without telling mom. They make you grow fond of Parm. Also, in Parm, you're treated as a kid all the time. Once you leave, you're treated more like an adult.

Then, when the time finally comes, they set it in the early morning. It shows a new side of the town and makes leaving the house seem more significant.

I could go on and on about how well they set it up.

Sue leaving felt kind of contrived for me. I feel like they just needed to get rid of her suddenly because she didn't fit the story at that point. It wasn't logical. The bit where you see Parm and hear the music when she goes back is pretty nice though.

It makes the game quite grindy, yes, but it also makes you use EVERYTHING the game has to offer to win, you will level all magics to around 85-99, bosses will wreck your shit in, etc.
