You know the saying; if you have to ask... Seriously, though - a good CRT will be good enough for most cases. A PVM is really useful if you need something that can handle lots of different formats and has lots of ports and options.
>>
>>344307037
I don't think it's the retron5 introducing lag I think its the lcd screen

Not all CRTs are good, the only ones that mattered came towards the end of the life cycle of the CRT and cost an arm and a leg. Half of these ended up in dumps. Which are in the 2000-2004 range, the last iteration of CRT was only shown and never sold. CRTs below the year 2000 can contain an assortment of toxic materials.

OLED will be the new CRT. 180° viewing angle, perfect blacks, and dies as you use it. The only thing it won't do is not look like shit at non-native resolutions.

I can use a CRT shader in retroarch.
Granted I'm not getting the other benefits of a CRT, but the games look fine. CRT-royale on a 4k display looks great.
A good CRT would be better but this method is cheaper and much more convenient.

why would it even matter when input lag is programmed into the game itself.

How much does the chip cost (if any), and how much soldering do you need to do?

I do if it's appropriate. I actually have seven CRTs hooked up in my house between me and my roommate.

Woops im a dumbass, top 32 melee. I didn't compete in any of the others. Huh I haven't encountered any of those issues yet, I have a backup controller just in case though.
>>
>>344311752
No. When all the old CRTs are hard to find because people threw them away it will be a new market to capitalize on. Not now when they cost $5 to literally nothing though.
>>
>>344311752
no, but they were the only used TV for over 40 years so they are plenty to go around, even if a lot were trashed.

Your best bet is to get them locally as they're expensive to ship and can be damaged easily during transport. Look around on craigslist and ebay.

Yesterday I went to the recycling centre to throw away a 46" CRT. It was heavy as fuck and I was glad to get rid of it.

>>
>>344311943
That goes along with the last point. At native resolution it should have zero input lag. This is great with modern consoles that have 1080p output. When displaying anything other than 1080p (or 4K for high-end models) there will be input lag from the scaler. Any analog video will also introduce lag from deinterlacing.

Therr are N64 RGB amp PCBs made by enthusiasts, but these solutions still require soldering.
In this case I'm sorry, look up for a modder in your area I guess?
Also learning soldering is totally worth it.

Pretty sure you don't need to carry your TV to play games on it.

I do want to learn soldering, but obviously I do need to do research on what kit I should get first, then I need to practice on something less valuable than my N64. Don't doubt it'll be worth it in the end, but it all takes learning, practice and time.

Mine. 1536p85 but I usually do 1440 at 90.

Gun's just not as bright as it used to be though, and these high res crts fucking suck for retrogaming at anything below 480p.
