CRT (preferably Sony HDCRT) for 7th and under, most 360/ps3 games run at sub 720p (usually around 540) upscaled to 1080/720 so they are best played on a Sony HDCRT at 720p or 480i.

If I measured it correctly, an old ass 27-inch 4:3 Sony Trinitron SDTV that I continue to have my PS2 plugged in to.
HD consoles I play on my 22-inch monitor and I also grabbed a shitty used 1280x1024 monitor with a stuck bright green pixel that was used in some office for who knows how long, but that was only 20€ and I got a DVI cable for free on top. Works perfectly for browsing shit while the other screen is occupied.

I would get a new TV for my consoles but having two TVs in my small ass apartment doesn't sound that great.
And I'd have to care about stuff like display lag and dead pixels, and I don't want to worry about that kind of shit right now especially since my monitor works just fine. My sofa may be comfier than my office chair, but it's still pretty comfy.

The good thing about having this 720p is that resolutions lower than 1080 still looks good. For example, i play my games in 1600 x 900, i find it a very pleasing widescreen setup.
I run it between 35 and 45 fps at average, never goes below 30. At 1080, like you, i would never manage but since it's a small monitor, it still looks great.
>>
>>344286056
reliability and service.
It broke(horizontal lines on one the screen, high pitched noise) right after warranty expired. now I need to pack this 42 monolith, drive it to Authorized Sony Service Centre, pay money for "diagnostics", wait up to 30 days, drive back, pay for repairs, and move it back home. All by myself. They don't offer at home service or any means of transportation.
These "authorized services" are pretty shit as well.

I use it as a monitor for PC and consoles, but "Smart" part of this TV is pretty shit.

I googled these symptoms and several articles pointed out to cheap shitty components that fail often. No mention of Sony though.

Well, i would say that's probably correct. Why not buy a smaller one like i did? 24", 26" and 22" are enough if you use it's close to your eyes. They also can be found in very cheap price ranges since everyone goes for the 32" and above. Just lay in wait for a store discount because sometimes they do it when they just wanna get rid of those smaller models, that's how i bought mine.
>>
>>344286939
>240hz

I hate TV companies, they all do this shit. Your TV is just a 60hz panel or a 120hz panel at most. Most 120hz or 240hz advertised TV's just mean that they have motion interpolation at 60hz which is useless for gaming since it makes the input lag easily over 120ms.
>>
>>344286529

>I have realised that it is too small for my taste
they all "shrink", after some time you get used to the size and this "wow" factor is nowhere to be seen. It doesn't mean it's too small, there are several formulas online to calculate optimal screen size based on the viewing distance.
I'm pretty sure I don't need 42" Screen, I constantly glance up to check supply when I play SC, it's too far into my peripheral vision, smaller screen would be better in this scenario.

A. I wear glasses.

B. that's not what I mean. Some video quality is just disturbing. My family works in VFX with Weinstien company. I've done movie makeup and video editing.

"Blue-ray" Quality is too percise, Take the original star wars trilogy, A lot of video editing was done to hide costume pieces, hair clips, wig clips, makeup, etc. Blu-ray sees right through all that, and completely gets rid of it. Go watch Star wars, you'll see Leia's Bun clips in almost every single shot.

If you want a more recent movie, Dead man's chest is even worse. Davy jones looses his entire charm because it undoes all the mucus/slime CG and the makeup work on the actors face, he now just looks like an old man with tubes atatched to his face every shot.

Its just fucking weird.

Movies and shows gain nothing from any resolution over 720, especially movies going for muh immersion, once you can see every pore on an actors face it takes you out of the experience, I'd rather just have amazing contrast and color at lower res.

Good cinematography has planned shots, pans and in a way is a form of art itself. A bad movie or camera man is sporadic, and will just keep shaking the camera or panning too much for effect. The problem with HD is it looks like your own eyes. Everything is going the speed of real life how you' percieve it, only it isn't you percieving it, it's the camera.

The camera movees and pans unlike your eye, it zooms, it has unrealistic angles such as above the battlefield, and bir eye view shots. A movie isn't MEANT to be real life, same as a videogame, and by making it seem like Real life, its even more imersion breaking, because then you have to remember it isn't real and its trying too hard.

Movies that can be identified as movies, and Games that can be identified as games, are the best of their medium. People here get triggered by Sony "movie-like" games, I get triggered by "Realistic-like" movies.

"movie-like games" are games that steal agency away from the player so that the writer can play with his virtual action figures, counter to the point of the medium.

If i could simply translate, i think he was pointing how he dislike when a movie doesn't accept the standard that a movie is about telling a story, not put yourself in it. Same as a game, is about putting you inside it. So in his view, movies should accept they are movies, and games that they are games.

I disagree though, one of Saving Private Ryan greatest achievments was showcasing WWII from a soldier in loco. There are many ways to tell a story, all are viable if done right.

You're making me want to get one now. After going over to one friends house who has his PC hooked up to a 43 inch and another friend who has an Xbone hooked up to his 50 inch I got envious of huge screens with good contrast.

I might pull the trigger and just get a 40-43inch Vizio @720p, the only thing that makes me skeptical is that I had a 48" 1080p Vizio E series a year ago that got dead pixels after 2 months of use and out of all my monitors and old CRT's that was the only display to give me problems so I'm kind of skeptical of big TV's, or at least cheap ones.

>>344293773
The only thing correct you said was less PPI and more input lag, and even then only more input lag typically, the Vizio D series have 13ms lag and the 2016 Vizio P have 17ms, most average monitors, even some 1ms - 2ms GTG have 10-15ms lag.

TV's can have just as much color depth and even more than some monitors and vice versa of course, so you're wrong there.

You are absolutely wrong when it comes to black levels on TV's, percentage wise there are way more shitty TN and IPS monitors with terrible blacks than TV's.

A good TV with a VA panel has much better blacks than most monitors, and again, they are comparable to monitors with VA panels.
>>
>>344293596
depend on model. mine is 50d36, input lag between 20-30ms.
>>
27'.

I've had the same TV since early 2010, when I bought it used at a PX at my first duty station. I'm not going to pay any amount of money to have a slightly better looking experience.

I probably won't buy a new TV until like 2020.
>>
>>344294517
IPS monitors literally have better black levels than any dumbass TV on the market

The color depth thing is debatable though, because even if they do match color depths of decent monitors they often fail in having shitty manufacturer color settings
>>
>>344293773
>less color depth
>hilariously bright blacks
Depends on the individual model, same as monitors.

>less PPI
Irrelevant for the viewing distances involved and really irrelevant in general outside of smartphone marketing spiel.

>more input lag
Certainly an issue with particularly slow TVs but otherwise not worth worrying about, even less worrisome for consoles.
>>
>>344294869
IPS do not have as good black levels as VA panels. That's kind of the whole point of VA panels, they have better blacks than IPS and TN.

Input lag is pretty bad on modern TVs. Couple that with consoles having bad input lag, and you can see a very noticeable difference after being accustomed to PC+monitor.

For sure, it varies GREATLY by breed and even down to individual dogs. Generally, dogs that have shorter, fine hair (think a Jack Russell terrier, for example) give off a lot of dander. Dogs with longer fur or even hair give off considerably less, and these are usually dogs that shed less. If you guys don't have allergies you're probably finer either way.

Not sure what you mean by RGB modded, but you can change some fine grain color settings. You can change the Hue/Saturation/Gain of the full range of colors (RGB and CMY).

32", I've borrowed my parents 50" but I sucked shit playing online games on it because i wasn't used to the excessive eye movement you have to do to see everything on the screen from 5 feet close so I went back to 32 inch. Sometimes I wonder what it's like having good eyesight and playing games from the couch and still being able to actually see shit.

Is that bad for your eyes?

I haven't run and older consoles through mine as I just emulate. All I have right now is one 50ft HDMI from my PC. I recommend the Redmere ones from Monoprice. It should work though, mine has all the inputs for it. I lent it to a friend to project a DVD through the component and it seemed fine.

Also just noticed that other post and 3000 lumens is actually crazy fucking bright. Usually the manufacture exaggerates though. My Benq is closer to 1000 when calibrated and is plenty bright unless you're trying to play with the lights on. It's just something you don't do with a projector imo unless you want to spend thousands on a black diamond screen.

>Input lag is about the same as a CRT, colors are great, and the blacks are pretty decent.

Well that's new. All projectors i've looked at have massive input lag when compared to modern tvs

When did you check? It has gotten much better since like 5 years ago. I mean, the majority still aren't at monitor levels but they're about the same as TVs now.
