The reason was because the consoles required a different multiplayer architecture (Central lobby server, P2P through a central lobby server etc.) meaning that they would spent too much time and too much fucking around to get it running properly. I want this game to succeed, but why did they add so few fucking features?
They had the creative freedom to do so much more, and probably could have, in that timeframe. If they just added actual customization with basebuilding like in Subnautica with maybe your own personal Space-station or something with a landing bay, where you could customize your own ship and shit. Those are just the things from the top of my head that could think of.
Instead we get three features: Exploration, Mining and Dogfighting.
