>>
>>344262441
Well, yeah. If you're somebody like Pewdiepie that's making a million dollars just from youtube alone it's basically their livelihood.
>>
>>344263765
shit, if it gets to the point where you can live off that jewtube money, i'd call it a job.
>>
>>344263597
>>344263918
If you lose your job, you don't starve to death, you find another job.

Checkmate.
>>
Tell that to totalbiscuit. Got a channel running but still doesnt get to live
>>
>>344264167
i hate TB. But getting diagnosed with terminal cancer has to be really fucked up. I mean, sure hes young.. so he'll get a bit more time compared to other cancer patients.. but still man. Constant chemo amongst other shit would be gay as fuck.

He looks significantly emotionless now. Shit has to do a number on you psychologically.
>>
>>344264134
That doesn't make any sense if you're arguing that it's not a job.
>>
>>344264423
I didn't say it wasn't a job, dumbass.

I'm saying you don't need a youtube channel to be successful, you can just find a different job.

aka an actual job.
>>
>>344264342
Yeah, I wonder if he got some suicide plan incase shit goes down and he gets chronic pain.
>>
>>344264485
It's basically a job in entertainment, which can garner much more money than an "actual job" if you hit the jackpot. Why go for an "actual job" if it pays less?
>>
>>344264485
Plenty of youtubers work way more hours than anyone doing a 'real' job
>>
>>344264642
>Why go for an "actual job" if it pays less?
Yes, it pays less, but I think the OP is trying to say you don't need that to live.

Actually, that is literally what he said. If you channel gets shut down, go do something that is an actual job, instead of recording yourself doing recreational activities that we all do.

Sure, a few exceptions, but I think OP is talking about let's players.
>>
>>344264883
>recording yourself doing recreational activities that we all do
If that was all that Youtubers who have channels successful enough to live off did, everyone would be doing it. Way to be ignorantly reductionist.

Entertainment is real work. It also requires massive effort building a channel to the point where you have an audience big enough to generate liveable income
>>

>If that was all that Youtubers who have channels successful enough to live off did
pewdiepie says hi
two best friends says hi
totalbiscuit says hi
game grumps says hi
markiplier says hi
literally everyone except people with an actual script says hi
>everyone would be doing it.
You have any idea how many let's players there are?

They're entertaining enough for people to watch them. They're likeable, or they've cultivated likeable personalities over time. Pretty much guaranteed you aren't. I know I'm not.

Are you saying what people do in let's plays are acting?

Don't be so ignorant, game grumps is literally 2 guys sitting next to each other with one playing a game and another watching them play, talking about their daily lives or what they see on the screen.
>>
>>344265414
No, I'm saying that acting isn't work.
>>
>>344265246
>>344265070
I tell people here all the time to get the fuck back to leddet, but that isnt serious, you wouldnt wish reddit upon your worst enemy. Same here.
>>
All I'm seeing in this thread are neckbeards being jealous because some people are able to make a livelihood doing the things they do in their free time.
>>
>>344263765
>Entertainment isn't a job

If it's making you money, and it's enough money to live on and pay your bills and whatever, then it's a job.
>>
>>344265576
Entertainment is a hard fucking job. Most people in entertainment don't make enough to eat. If you get sick, and work in entertainment in the USA, you're completely fucked. Entertainment workers have to scrounge for every dollar.
>>
>>344265524
>LOL I HATE REDDIT
People from reddit coming here has made this place a thousand times better. The era of your hipster choice in games and hateful sexist jokes has come to an end. Time to leave, loser.
>>
>>344265635
>Entertainment is a hard fucking job.
So being a let's player isn't considered entertainment?

Glad we agree.
>>
>>344265635
So just because some people can't manage to make money in entertainment it's not a job when others can?

Hey now, anon
Reddit by itself isn't bad. - its the underage fucking queers that ONLY browse /b/ or /v/ that flock here because of the "epic moments" screencaps.

Well if you can ignore the goody two shoes attitude because of the upvote system. ... And the blatant reposting for muh goodboy points...

...
Never mind. Fuck reddit.
>>
>>344265720
Not even the same guy, the fact that entertainment being discussed whether it's a real job or not is retarded. It's effort you expend for money, practicing a certain skill (entertaining people).

And honestly, fuck real jobs. Good on entertainers for trying to break out of the traditional adult life script of wasting away in an office until retirement age.

>>
>>344265878
This guy gets it. I'd love to having a life that isn't stuck to the same old boring routine every day, but have a job where you get to experience something new and make a name for yourself while doing it.
>>
>>344266029
Luck is part of that but you have to be likeable enough to catch someones attention.
>>
>>344266514
You also need to keep making content at a steady rate to keep the attention of your audience. Tobuscus went on a hiatus and was unable to get back on his feet ever since then.
>>
>>344266778
Exactly.

Youtube and twitch doesn't seem exactly hard, just exhausting.
>>
>>344265787
The upvote system is good for creating content, Reddit is constantly flooded by good artists or content creators whoring themselves out for upvotes, which is a good thing. However, it's absolutely garbage for discussions and I largely prefer some shitposting than everyone being a faggot to get muh upvotes.

Pewdiepie did have a stroke of luck with how youtube pushed people though. He farmed a bit of a global userbase and then youtube redesigned search to prefer videos from your own country. So he suddenly got a lot of frontpage time in sweden since he had a lot of subs. Then they reverted it mostly but his increased viewercount from sweden helped him. Then he got lucky to play amnesia which blew up as a big indie game. There were also a few other things like that which I forgot. But he got a few lucky calls in combination with doing something with apparently many people like.

I believe yatzhee made a video about it where he basically said something similar about how he just got lucky he got picked up from the cesspool of stupid youtube videos and got a platform to expand his stuff on.
>>
>>344267036
From the time ive spent on Reddit it was often content lifted from other subs to be refitted into fitting the sub they posted it in. Which not only generates upboats from people who like the repackaged joke. But also from people who recognised it and feel good from knowing where its from.
>>
>>344267293
You have to invest a lot of time to get to the point where you can 'get lucky' though. Like if Pewdiepie didn't already have substantial subscribers from years of consistent videos, he wouldn't have benefited from the local frontpage change.
>>
Honestly, whenever /v/ posts their youtube channels, they're either shoddy half-jobs or the nerd voice is so strong you never affect and "I want to hang out with this guy" feeling in your audience.
>>
>>344267530
Sure, but getting the hookup from having a halfdecent viewbase you can make a video or two for in evenings to doing it as a full time job.
