Jesus fuck this game is crazy. Am I a casual for quicksaving after every challenging room or am I really supposed to endure gauntlet after gauntlet where one fuck up kills you? Am I retarded for picking Hard difficulty?

What are the best Serious Sams?
>>
Same boat here. At first I tried to get levels done in one run, but by the time I got to the citadel I was already quicksaving because fuck these levels are long.

I made the same mistake. Picked hard in my first run, got to the great pyramid saving after every challenge and then i gave up. Literally, i cant get past even by savescumming. And i refuse to play the whole game on an easier mode.

I think that TSE is better than TFE. But TFE is still great.

just play on normal you fucking idiot

its normal mode, why the fuck would you feel bad playing on the normal mode?

serious sam is a hard game, not the latest piss easy call of duty

feeling challenge isn't a bad thing.

well I scummed it by quicksaving at a point where I was a 3rd of the way there without taking damage but I was getting real tired of that shit.

Would I have liked to beat the frog gauntlet legit? Yes. But I'd like to play the rest of the game more so the french win for now.

This is Serious Sam. You're supposed to be good at shooters to enjoy it. Don't feel bad for playing on normal, the game is fucking insane.

quicksaves are for when you have to quit mid level or are playing on serious difficulty and haven't gotten good yet.

>Boring
Kid's a retard, oh well.
>>
>>344261797
The quick save feature is there for something so don't feel ashamed of using it. Picking hard mode from the get go is not so bad but the game can get quite hairy at times so if you don't feel comfortable with the difficulty, just play it on normal but don't think the game will become piss easy, it will still be challenging but more forgiving, allowing you to become more familiarized with the game and enjoy it a lot more. Now, naturally. after a while you'll start getting more comfortable with the game and with the whole "dancing" part of it, so you will start using less and less quicksaves and you will also start cracking that difficulty up. Just don't get discouraged and keep going at it. The game truly gets amazing when you are dodging everything, knowing that even a few hits or some mistakes can royally fuck you up.

Rocket jump onto one of the ledges.

As much as I love Serious Sam there are a few (well, quite a few) cheap moments in the game that always annoyed me.

In TFE it was the frog boss battles and pretty much the whole Metropolis level, it just had everything I hated - arachnoids from far away, kleers spawning 10 feet away from you, and not enough ammo at times (if you didn't get the cannon before the kleer corridor you're gonna have a very hard time).

In TSE it was pretty much every gimmicky room, but the one that stands out is the room where enemies bounce from wall to wall and there's wind pushing you. It wouldn't be so bad if the enemies weren't fucking kamikazes and kleers - the two enemies you most definitely don't want to get close to.
>>
>>344264718
>start TFE on Hard for the first time
>everything is fucking faster

I know Serious Sam 2 isn't very popular here but does anyone else prefer SS2's weapons over TFE/TSE?

Recently replayed the first game and holy shit Dunes is fucking perfection.
>Start out right in the action
>Blue Mechanoids so you can still react
>By the time you sent a rocket to each, bulls come out to grab your attention
>That beautiful vista as you leave the desert
>That fucking music
>Whatever is in the arena tells you what's coming
>Rockets: Kleers, Bulls, Red Mechanoids
>Bullets: Kamikazes, Harpies, Blue Mechanoids
>Backpack, fucking everything
>That music transition to make you feel victorious as fuck between waves
It's a shame that once you get the lasergun it burns out and doesn't compare to everything else.
But holy shit I've never appreciated a level so much in my life.

Well I'm playing both with a mouse and keyboard and classic Serious Sam TFE on serious is much easier for me than say Doom 2 on Nightmare!. The pinky just becomes too fast for me to handle. Don't know about Mental diffy yet since I'm such a casual.

tl;dr: in the time I pass one level in DooM I do three in SS.
>>
>>344269701
Metropolis in general wasn't very good.
>arachnoids out the ass
>keyhunting in an area with 20 houses that look the same
>long corridor with thousands of kleers
>even another battle after that
>>
>>344261797
Should've picked serious difficulty senpai. The only correct way to play.
>>
>>344269896
That's more of a controlls issue really. Playing something like GZdoom with a mouse makes the game pretty easy except some really small parts in Doom 2
>>
>>344269919
>>344269128
I noticed Serious Sam has this issue where it has some extra parts that bring the action down.

The first half of Dunes is amazing, but once you go inside the building it's not as good.

Metropolis should have stopped after the Kleer corridor, the battle afterwards doesn't feel as grand or challenging.

In the Grand Cathedral, the part before the exit with the jump pads is just frustrating.

About to start my first Serious playthrough of the games and have but one question.

Is Serious balanced around secrets? I know it changes spawns so I guess it assumes you have the RL and Double Barrel on the first level.
>>
>>344270362
From what I've heard, secrets are pretty much necessary to survive.

Think about the Kleer corridor in Metropolis. Without the cannon, it's fucking hell
>>
>>344270454
Serious does come with double max ammo and ammo pickups

You'd have 999 minigun ammo and a full refill midway, so that's help things.

Though the cannon is such a good lifeline, you'd be mad not to grab it.

One of the many things that makes Serious Sam great is that you can make the games look like something from the Nintendo 64 or a modern AAA game.

Pretty sure the bottom is regular TSE, unless there's a way to change the HUD in HD

>>
>>344261797
Hard is often harder than Serious because of the ammo bonus. For the first run I'd go normal, it's about as engaging, just not as punishing, because the game is built for you to dodge (almost) everything, and health values for monsters are consistent across difficulties.
>>
>>344262438
I have no shame in rocket jumping to the top level every single time.
>>
>>344261797
You'll eventually pick up on things like using the coach shotgun to one shot kleers after side-stepping their leap.

Once you get gud it's like a dance, just weaving between all the shit flying at you, it feels great.

I've watched a few of his other videos as well, and he does that in all of them. >>
>>344270362
When arguing that it wasn't balanced around secrets, I was challenged to complete TFE's second level from a clean start. I did manage it after some grief, but through borderline exploiting (jumping on top a mob of gnaars) and luck. I think that's the only sequence where you are almost required to have either the tommy gun or the RL, and TSE gives you all the tools needed fairly quickly.
>>
>>344272439
HD, exactly the same, just looks nicer.
>>
>>344263950
>pssh, people that like what i don't like are dumb and unenlightened *tips doom 3*

>>
>>344272439
Depends on your taste.

Personally I go for HD because the crosshair is just too big in Classic (although if you play Revolutions you don't have this problem).

Some stages look different in classic and HD, for example Alley of the Sphinxes takes place at sunset in classic, but night in HD.

Some weapon stats have also slightly changed. I prefer HD just because the minigun is OP as hell and I love using it.

Some enemies also look different. The biomechanoids wiggle their tail/bone in classic, but not in HD. Zumb'uls look way different in HD, and the Zorg don't do their alien grunts in HD.

Grenade Launcher's animations are fucked up ini HD too, for some reason.

Really it comes down to personal preference, but I'd say go for HD first.
>>
>>344269896
Nightmare is a joke difficulty, you're not supposed to slaughter everything
Mental is an highscore difficulty, it exists only for the higher score multiplier. It uses the same stats and spawns as Hard, but with every enemy invisible. It's not fun
>>
>>344272386
There's no shame in playing a game on whatever difficulty, so long as you're enjoying yourself.

Frankly I hate the whole "lol u don't play on super-ultra-nightmare-apocalypse mode with a gamecube controller what a loser" mentality when it comes to a lot of shooters.
>>
>>344272939
I really wish Croteam does something with the score in SS4.

I liked that it gave you extra lives in 2. I mean sure it was useless since you had quicksaving, but still, it was nice for it to actually have a use
>>
>>344261797
The game is built around quicksaving every 30 seconds. I'm not surprised they don't already have an automatic save system on a timer because that's how often they spawn armies of kleers and bombers right on my fucking head just for daring to pick up a health item.
>>
>>344273139
While I hate the whole "pick up a pill and spawn 20 kleers" thing, I do appreciate that most of those are at least easy to spot. If it's just a single health pill or armor shard, 9 times out of 10 it's a trap, so it's easy to avoid.
>>
>>344272692
Don't forget that classic has the physics secrets, and sam's movement is different. I find it much easier to get to secrets and other spots with classic than HD
>>
>>344273139
I would think that after a while you'll learn not to grab the pill that's lying in a corner.
>>
>>344273416
Really? I found it easier to get some secrets in HD, like that one in ... fuck, I forgot the name. The level with "AAAAAA Yourself!", right before the entrance to the tomb, where you have to go over a hill to get to a secret area
>>
>>344273284
>>344273439
>Not purposefully picking it up
>Not enjoying that end of level full kills counter
>>344273494
Never had problems with that, but i found it MUCH easier to do some sequence breaking in TSE, especially in the spike tube/outside ziqqurat
Also TFE's first level, i always fuck up the jump to the RL in HD

>>344273675
>sequence breaking
Ah, well, I wouldn't know about that, I always try to complete the levels the legit way

>>344273494
Sand Canyon
>>
>>344272964
I know the sentiment, and it became a meme to ask whether one is serious, but there are solid reasons to encouraging people to go for it eventually.

You get more use out of the power weapons thanks to ammo bonus.
Every tactic from lower difficulties transfers easily, unlike other shooters where you might accumulate bad habits, rediscover time to kill, or have to cheese through hard mode.
New spawns either push execution requirements to their limits, or change the whole flow of the fight with a new enemy type.

To insist that one goes straight to serious difficulty is to rob them of this gradual build up.
