When we asked for Skyrim Online, what we meant was something like GTA V Online, same world, but with more players.
What we didn't ask for was a shitty WoW clone that shits all over the lore.

Okay, but how do you adapt Elder Scrolls mechanics to that? For example, how does dialogue work? Shitty vote system like TOR, or is one player the PC and the other is the hanger-on? How do you distribute dungeon loot? Do you compete for vendor inventory and gold? What about artifacts like the dragon priest masks and daedric items, do they get duplicated or does one player get the shaft?
This is just a sampling of the questions that come up, and trying to answer them (and every other design concern) is how we ended up with ESO.
