Is this worth playing /v/?
At this point it's surprising if you haven't.
Is there a single survival/builder game worth playing? Serious question. I have an itch here.
>>344234951
>>344235094
It's worth it, yes.
But I'd strongly advise giving yourself a silver pickaxe and regular axe. It speeds the very start up since your copper tools are incredibly slow.
>>344234951
Totally.
>>344235094
"survival" isn't really an issue in Terraria. Best game I know of for that is Don't Starve.
>>344235204
Played the Vita version. It was meh.
>>344235012
Yeah I haven't. I blew it off as shitty 2D minecraft and never looked properly into it.
>>344235264
Vita version is terrible.
As are all the non-PC versions.
PC version also has mods. Quite good ones. About 50% more content too
>>344235387
You're not wrong. It's kinda scary though. Weird shit happens at night like zombies come out to bust your balls. Then the blood moon rises and giant eyeball comes to fight you. There's all kinds of evil stuff underground and getting back to the surface can be a pain in the ass. Went so far down that I'm pretty sure I found hell. Couldn't really survive too long down there because of all the demons. That's when I stopped playing.
>>344235770
>playing it on a fucking console
Man, just please do yourself a favor and play with KB+M. It doesn't even matter if you pirate it. Seriously.
>>344235894
The only thing that gets oppressive is the building, honestly. The platforming aspect feels fine with a controller setup.
I tried it for about 20mins, then tried to craft something and gave up
>>344235991
According to your post, you haven't even gotten to 95% of the content the game offers.
Just do yourself a god damn favor. Especially if you're trying to do an expert mode, which, in my opinion, makes the game so much more interesting and forces the player to incorporate building into the fighting.
Unless the console versions don't even have expert mode yet, which is another reason to just fucking play it on a computer with kb+m. You'd be doing yourself an enormous favor.
>>344236223
What a shame. Do you drop every game that seems uninteresting in the first 20 minutes?
Terraria is one of the best games I've ever played. Not even fucking joking. The amount of love put in the game is the best we've seen from an indie game in recent years.
>>344236230
I guess it couldn't really keep my attention. I did do the sand stuff and fought a bunch of bosses and also did the jungle area and this death blight area. I dunno.
Still beats Starbound out of the water.
I just hit 300 hours yesterday. I paid $2.50 for it. It's pretty remarkable thinking about how much they have added to the game post-launch. Almost tripled the content. And two more patches are coming still.
>>344236367
>Do you drop every game that seems uninteresting in the first 20 minutes?
Sometimes, yeah; first impressions and all that.
I have a hundred and eleven games in my backlog, so if it's that good I'll get back to it at some point.
>>344236429
That's not 20 minutes, anon. If you fought multiple bosses, meaning Cthulhu and Skeletron at least, that's easily in the range of 5~10hrs, more so on an expert world.
Finding NPCs, building a house that isn't a rectangle, decorating it with the shit you find in caverns, and getting sweet ass gadgets for mobility/niche shit all significantly help the early game harness a more gratifying experience. Really sucks you couldn't get into though.
>>344236714
Just get past the first boss and familiarize yourself with the recipes and see what you can/can't do. The most daunting aspect of the game is not knowing what certain materials do and not being familiar with all the items they have in the game, and that just came over time. Terraria used to be much more simple when it first came out, and all the content leaves a beginner player with a weird taste in their mouth. It's something you just have to get used to, but once you do, it's a really great game.
>>344234951
Fuck sandstorm in a bottle
>>344236714
This was the 1.2 update.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0scnF8pXfU
And this was the 1.3 update.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nXdtDgpPeE
My picture is from an adventure map made to showcase the 1.3.1 update's mechanics to the engineering portion of the game.
How do you get the apache?
>>344234951
Starbound is better, but Terraria is good if you're into autistic MMO style grind. Good for weaning yourself off monthly fees if you're a WoW addict.
>>344237982
You must build it from scratch yourself.
>>344238078
>autistic MMO style grind
That's funny coming from the Starbound shitposter, given that repeating the same exact shit ten times over is exactly what you do in Starbound.
>>344238078
yes
it has tanks and apaches
pic related
>>344238335
Show me a screenshot of a tank in Terraria then.
>>344238623
I'll do you one better.
At least starbound has better wires and liquids.
Why did terraria devs become so lazy they aren't distinguishable from cucklefish anymore?
>>344235583
>As are all the non-PC versions
The Xbox and Playstation ports were pretty good desu
>>344238623
>>344238960
building mechanics aside, it seems they are missing a lot of content the PC versions have
>>344238623
Hold on, let me boot up Gabe Newell's Terraria and see if I can get one.
>>344238846
>why did terraria devs become so lazy they aren't distinguishable from chucklefish anymore?
...What?
Starbound's got a better engine for that sort of shit. The .NET framework Terraria was built on isn't supposed to be used for a lot of shit Terraria uses it for, and changing the coding under the hood to allow for more complex shit would require a total overhaul of pretty much the entire game.
The liquid and lighting are pretty much the most impressive things about Starbound, to be honest.
>>344238846
Starbound has tremendous potential in terms of TECHNOLOGY and untold levels of comfy, but the actual game portion of the game is fucked up constantly. They have no idea how to do a proper system of progression. They have no idea that making every monster RNG-based is hurtful as it makes none of them unique. They can't into giving individual biomes useful and unique rewards for seeking them out. They are constantly revamping EVERYTHING.
Also just fucking look at that dirt. Atrocious.
>better wires
You call click and drag wireless connections "wires"?
Serious question, has anyone made an actual calculator in Starbound yet that wasn't just built around preprogrammed functions?
>>344235894
I've got a few hundred hours on both the 360 and the PC versions and I honestly much prefer the controller. I don't like the controls on the new PC controller function tho
>>344238846
>>344239676
also comes the fact that terraria's latest update was huge in terms of wiring
>>344239676
>Serious question, has anyone made an actual calculator in Starbound yet that wasn't just built around preprogrammed functions?
I believe first calculator was build purely on AND/OR gates, soon after they introduced this stuff.
>>344238960
3DS is pretty decent, too.
>>344238623
>>344239859
Well at least they've got logic gates, so that's already a lot better than I expected.
Although I kind of find it funny that Terraria built them out of fucking glitching skeletons around before proper gates were introduced.
>>344234951
it took me like 5 minutes of playing to uninstall it. it's not that i hated it. it just feels so lonely playing alone with no friends. i'd ask my brother but we're kinda not on good terms right now.
>>344239676
Yeah, they keep making features, but still can't make proper game.
how do i beat duke fishron [spolier]on ps4
>>344240765
I'm not sure if PS4 has the mechanical cart, but just make a huge track and spam rapid fire chlorophyte bullets at it
>>344240721
>make a billion and two super cool features and mechanics that would make an already good game great
>completely shit the bed on the actual game portion of the game
It's so difficult for me to comprehend how the fuck it turned out this way.
>>344240765
Remember Anonctrl+s
>>344240993
Basically everyone can think of good features. They have quite decent programmers to make said features.
But to imagine the game as whole is much harder. And when they make new feature they don't think if it fits in the game, they just make it because it sounds cool.
>>344237091
Honestly.
Bundle of Balloons would be 1000% better if Desert Crates existed.
>>344241842
This may actually be a thing that happens in 1.3.3, given that 1.3.3 is the underground desert update.
1.3.2 is the birthday party invasion update, for the record, and is due in three or fewer weeks.
>>344240976
>Mothron.gif
In reality a proper gif would have no moth at all because WHY AREN'T THE MOTHRONS FUCKING SPAWNING>inb4 200 troubleshooting repliesI have 500+ hours on this game and know a ton of conditional data.
>>344242229
Sauce.
Now.
>>344243009
http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/news-flash.45821/
>>344238725
now thats is dedication, autistic useless dedication, but dedication nontheless
>>344243329
>>344243329
Not as bad as taking years to recreate entire games in minecraft. Literally for what purpose would anyone do that.
Yes. It took me a few years to actually give it more than 10 or 15 minutes, but goddamn I'm glad I did. I thought the game was just another autism sim like Minecraft, but the adventure game elements are fun as shit and worth playing the game for that alone.
>>344243450
Did the guy who made this ever put any of his worlds up for download?
>>344243753
I wouldn't know. I don't even know where they come from.
Why is it apparently impossible to simply place stone blocks for walls? I'm somehow only able to select empty tiles about five away from where I want the block to go.
I have a couple pictures from the last thread
>wan't to get creative and build a neat beautiful comfy underground home
>can only make cheap ugly commieblocks
how does one find creativity
