Just beat this game and what an amazing game it was. The ending confused the shit out of me and I can't stop thinking about the 'bad' ending especially the axe ending. Is VLR a better game or around the same? Can't wait to play that.
>>
I liked VLR better because there's more of it and at some point goes off the rails into the great unknown which I love I unironically consider Umineko to be the best VN available.

The puzzles in VLR are also more serious, plus most of the characters are great, with few exceptions.

If you want to consider playing the entire series, ZTD is also very good. It just has its own share of plotholes and some issues with providing adequate closure - but the presentation and some scenarios presented are superb.

How is ZTD? I'm looking at the reviews and people seem to be loving it.
>>
>>344235641
soon, didn't you see the Steam port announced?
>>
>>344235641
Game is easy af to emulate. Paying for a PC port makes no sense especially since it's nothing more than a novel.
>>
>>344235675
ZTD has good presentation, good beggining and alot of moments of tension.
On the other side it has a Deus ex machina bullshit, plotholes and a unsatisfying closure, underveloped characters and plotlines that leads to nothing.
>>
>>344235928
After I beat VLR I'll definitely play it. We don't get too much quality puzzle solvers nowadays.
>>
999 is the best, VLR is fine but ZTD was a huge disappointment
>>
What parts of the end confused you?
>>
So the axe ending was Akane killing you, right?
>>
>>344235675
>>344235928
As I said and that other anon confirmed, it does a lot of things right and I enjoyed it immensely. But it has some deficiencies - weird animations, COMPLEX MOTIVES (i.e. plot asspuls) and it just doesn't feel like a final game in the series. It's still great. People who call it a shit game or a severe disappointment are nothing but mouthbreathing /v/tards, they would complain about anything.

>>344236709

>>
>>344236709
Nah that was when Clover went insane and killed everyone with the axe

I couldn't get past the beginning without a walkthrough, it made me do actual math in a video game.

VLR is great, but it goes up it's own ass near the end. It still has some really clever twists.

You also need to play though a lot of story sections you've already seen because of the branching nature of the storylines, so rev up that skip button. It will automatically stop skipping a section when there's new dialogue, so go wild with it.
>>
>>344234645
Not as shocking and the puzzles are much harder. Its also much longer then 999, but in my opinion it is just as good if not better.
>>
Who's your favorite 999 character /v/? Mine was Snake. I really wish he came back. He was cute and I have a crush on him.
>>
>>344234645
Ending went full clusterfuck imho
>>
>>344243891
Clover's brother. VLR's cast is much, much better though.

Well then who is your favorite VLR character? I'm replaying the game, and honestly I can't say any of them are my favs, they all do something stupid that pisses me off.
>>
Anyone know any other good... VN? With mature theme besides these series and Valhalla?
>>
>>344234645
999 -> VLR as Banjo-Kazooie -> Banjo-Tooie

I prefer VLR and BT, but I understand those who prefer the other games.

Best 999.

"American" and "America" are typically considered the United States of America, even though Canada is part of the "North American" continent. Because of this, Canada likes to distinguish themselves from "America".

Damn. Writing "America" so many times makes one realize what a weird looking word it is.

America. America. America. America.

Yup, a very weird word.

>>344234645
VLR is a bit odder of a game. Some people like it just as much as 999, others feel it is a weaker sequel. I enjoyed the characters in 999 more than the ones in VLR, but that might have more to do with the bland art style in VLR than anything else. 999 felt more like a typical "Room Escape" game than VLR did, but VLR's puzzles can be much more interesting and involved.

I said CAN be, purists.

If nothing else, if you liked 999, give VLR a try. If you like VLR, then of course get Zero Time Delima. Slowly going through that game now. I was gonna play it at work, but I can't find a fucking way to set the game so the texts/speech only advances after each sentence when I fucking TELL the game to.
>>
I finished Last Reward a few days ago and it was amazing and also pretty dissapointing in the writing side.

It's very annoying that "oh, look a box exactly the same that the last box we saw, it probably works exactly like the last work we saw" and the kind.

It's specially annoying when you have already saw the same scene more than twice but because a single comment change fastforward just stop everything.

It last around 40-50 hours but it would really have 25-30 hours of real content.

Beside that, which sound really harsh, the game it's pretty good, and "refreshing" specially compared to daganronpa and the like, which are just kiddie tier weebshit.

I'm asking again, just for the sake of it... >>344246435 ? Anyone?
>>
>>344246245
Sigma, Phi, and Luna. I also liked Clover, K, Tenmyouji, and Quark a lot. Just wait, the characters eventually get much better.

I wanted to see him in VLR again ;-;

The writing was pretty good up until the last part of the game; the ending felt like such an ass-pull. And the whole "Sigma is Zer"o thing felt unnecessary.

But that's pretty common in the Zero Escape series.
>>
>>344247756
Don't listen to this fag, anon, because PHI IS ZERO and LUNA IS THE KILLER
>>
>>344247562

thanks dude, checking!

Also... hotel dusk was great! In case someone missed.
>>
Sigma and his sons are Zero
Quark is a robot controlled by Zero
Sigma is 67 years old and looks 22
Junpei is controlling a 67 year old
Akane has caused the destruction of the universe
Sigma and his sons from Akane are now the Zero
>>
>>344247756

>>
>>344246435
>>344247341
Well, there's the Ace Attorney games of course.

People tend to like Norn9, but I haven't tried it.

Steins;Gate is generally well regarded.

The XBLAZE games are generally considered shit-tier.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is fantastic

As is Hotel Dusk: Room 215.

Can't say much about Time Hollow.

Lux-Pain is ass.

Disgaea Infinite is pretty funny if you're into that style.

Sweet Fuse: At Your Side could be good...but it involves trying to save Keiji Inafune's life. I'd rather he die.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

And I suggest you abandon thread now. Too many European faggots out tonight.
>>
>>344235675
Here's the skinny
The story goes so fucking hard off the rails in both the good and bad ways- i.e, the story pops off really strong at a lot of points, and a lot of the story is highly memorable, especially C-Team and their plot. However, the game asspulls harder than any of the other games, the game is animated like trash, and the *(& BIG ZERO ESCAPE PLOT TWIST &)* of this game is really underwhelming.

It's still a good game though, and while the ending is kinda shite, it doesn't really ruin the whole experience, which at it's peak is the highest the series has ever gone.
>>
>>344248381

I use to hate animeske thing so I'm skipping Steins;Gate.

Ghost Trick is in my watchlist already.

Norn9... lurking right now.

Time Hollow looks too animu too.

Disgaea characters was, even for anime, very entertaining, so im checking that too.

Sweet fuse looks actually apealing.

And... Great, thanks for your recommendations. A shame I'm European and you despited me, amerifat dude.
>>
>>344234645
VLR is one of the best designed games in the series. It fits its genre so perfectly that it puts ZTD to shame.
>>
>>344246435
My experience with VNs is limited. I got Zero Escape series, Ace Attorney (already suggested), and Saya no Uta.

I really enjoyed Saya no Uta.
>>
>>344248815
Not a problem! Glad I could be of assistance. Gonna pirate them, Europoor mate?

Relax, it's faggots being faggots.

Just like the rumors that ran amuck after the release of Xenosaga III that Shion dies at the end, or that Shulk became God in Xenoblade.
>>
>>344249369

But dude... Shion dies at the end.

>>

Eh, for most of them that's likely a good option since you can't really get them new anymore anyways.

But if you do get ZTD, please buy it. Fans of the series had to beg and petition for YEARS to get it made.

No, but knowing that Luna is Akane's daughter will.
>>
>>344249638
i haven't played ztd yet but i'm pretty much spoiled, so i have to ask: was the whole daughter thing a really bad asspull? i could have sworn k was sigma's only "son" in vlr, but i could be wrong.
>>
>>344249580
Wait until you find out that K is Quark from 60 years in the future.
>>
>>344249849
Sigma doesn't know that Phi is his daughter until the true ending route in ZTD, so the Old Sigma we see in VLR has no clue he has any actual children.

I will anon, but it will be only because you have been a very kind yankee
