Anyone still playing Phantom Pain? I just came back to it, haven't played it since the week after MGO came out. Had shitloads of MB coins, PF points, and challenge rewards to accept, kinda renewed my interest in it.
>>
>>344231448
nah, haven't touched it since the insurance shit came out. My base's prolly raided to death, but I really don't care.
>>
>>344232258
I think your FOBs are taken out of the rotation if you haven't done FOB in a while. I expected mine to be all fucked up too and it hasn't been invaded since October.
>>
>>344231448
There's nothing to do yet I cannot let go. Several times a day I log in for the daily bonus and mined resources. I can't find a team of more than 3 people on MGO. 2700 MB coins and nothing to spend.
>>
>>344233153
Man, is MGO really that dead? What are you playing on?

I still go on for a few missions or wandering around every once in a while. Even at 100% completion, I think the gameplay alone has more than enough potential for a few hours of fun.

So many people have a lack of imagination, they are given more tools and equipment to conduct operations than most games could only dream of, yet they still complain that MGSV has a lack of content and fun.
>>
>>344231448
I like how they ported over Ocelot's revolver from MGO.
All they need to do now is port over Quiet and I'd sink a lot more time in TPP.
In the few matches I played as Quiet in MGO, I had a lot of fun.
>>
>>344233693
PC/Stream. I see 15/16 players for Bounty Hunter and absolutely 0 players for all other game modes. If you are lucky and manage to find another game mode it will be you versus 5 other players.
>>
played it the other day. fucked around invading outposts, shooting goats, and messing around with guards. After that, grinded some FOBs to get my GMP up, and unlocked the new camos, which they still add very often. Really like that it's so easy to get them.
>>
>>344234203
I want that knife. The tornado is fun to use.
>>
>>344231448
Not for a while, if Konami were ever smart enough to release a player-made mission editor, or at least monthly mission packs for the Open World, I'd jump on that shit immediately.

This game is literally screaming for more missions. I don't even care about the story or MGO anymore, just put some more missions in!
>>
>>344234103
The variety of weapons and equipment is good, but the actual missions, side ops, and FOB infiltrations are pretty bland. With FOB if you've done one high ranked one you've basically done them all, same for side ops. Side ops wouldn't even be so bad if you didn't have to go back to the ACC for new ones. Right now for me it's like

>deploy in Africa
>complete extraction side op
>travel to the other side of Africa
>complete tank side op
>go back to acc
>unlock another extraction and tank op
>>
Started logging on and did some FOB events. It was fun but I feel like it would get boring quickly again. Any of the new weapons notable or are they just lol 10% more damage or some shit?
>>
>>344235152
That would be beautiful. instead we get weapons that we'll never unlock and that are to expensive to bother deploying with.
>>
>>344234418
PC was dead on arrival due to cheating, no one has an xbox anymore, ps4 has a couple hundred people left last time I checked
Damn shame they didn't know how to balance shit and there's only a few maps, really killed what chance the game had
>>
Still play it but mostly just the single player. I also like the FOB events since they're basically single player missions with no chance of retaliation, and I'm a sucker for the cosmetic rewards. FOB raiding and MGO never really caught my attention

Nope. Complete fuck up they didn't add some sort of co-op element to the game. Really wanted to do some missions with a friend or two.

I'd need the friends first but that's beside the point.
>>
>complete FOB event multiple times
>decide to cash in some points
>0 event points

T-thanks Konami.

>>344235152
I wish. More missions with dialogue and maybe some new boss fights. Hell, I'd pay for that.
>>
>>344235230
WU. Pistol Cb and +SB are cool tranqs. The first can be attached under barrel and is silenced, the second is a one shot KO to any part of the body. The Tornado, Ocelot's gun, is awesome. the bullets ricochet. the AM a114, a tranq gas gun, is kind of cool. knocks out armored guys with body shots. the jehuty upgrade is great with range. the most recent ones require a ton of grinding, haven't bothered.

I've never played a metal gear game before this one. I had a lot of fun playing it, I thought the cutscenes were super cool and so were the villians and allys. I love stealth games and I love free roam (maybe more sandbox?) games so this one was perfect for me. The intro level with big boss in the hospital and Ishmael hooked me and I was getting so into it, it was intense.
>>
>>344235819
I wanted this so bad, co-oping the missions, taking down bases, and traveling the open world with a friend would have amazing.

Yeah, side ops are a place where the game definitely feels underdeveloped. We are limited to little more than "Extract/Destroy this target"

Little things such as helping out other Diamond Dogs soldiers in their tasks, capturing convoys, being hired for Mujahideen operations like in Backup, Back down etc. would've been amazing.

The first few missions of the game were Snake, Miller and Ocelot taking on random operations like these, grasping at straws for links to Cipher while using the war economy to grow DD. Would've been perfect if Side Ops were basically these kind of missions, without the overarching plot with XOF/Cipher.
For example, the Honey Bee mission is only Main Ops because the Skulls attack at the end and Calcium Man shows up.

Is there some sort glitch when it comes to infiltrating the base development platform of a FOB? Mine's been invaded twice this week, and on both occasions the invader straight up dashed through three struts unimpeded, shooting guards and UAVs down ONLY when the main deck was reached – almost as if the invisibility period one has when arriving on a FOB was extended way beyond its natural span. The first guy took a little over three minutes to reach the core, whereas the second took one and a half. What gives?

I tried, what I came to realize is that the biggest weakness of MGSV's open world is side-op objectives.

The main missions for the most part are great, in general they're unique scenarios that can get dynamic, with side objectives and soldier skills to look out for that enhance replay value. I wish there were more missions like Pitch Dark or Footprints of Phantoms, where you can complete them without interacting with a single soul.

Side-ops... just aren't. Extract the soldier/prisoner. Take out the armored/tank unit. A few times you snatch blueprints. And that's all. I'm probably in the minority where I like most of the level design of the bases but they just don't hold up if I'm doing the same thing across every one, even with guard adaptation, which is a great feature.

Besides the co-op, yeah, there's some sort of PVP multiplayer mode. Like I said I haven't gotten to try it but it seems pretty fleshed out.

I've learned to let it go. Konami do not want you to ever achieve disarmament. I believe that is what the original developers of it intended - what Kojima intended - but at some point a suit said "wait, so if disarmament is achieved people won't have an incentive to participate in FOBs anymore? Well we can't have that can we?" and sabotaged the whole thing.

>Phantom Nukes
>Nuke counter not working
>Huge arsed blockade times
>Relatively easy to make
>No live nuke counter (despite code for it existing) and failing to regularly update players of the current count - which they stopped after a few months when most of the sales for the game were made

So here is how it'd go down if it DID happen.

>Big twitter announcement
>You start the game and get a cutscene
- at best you'd get a limited time event FOB to do which will trigger the cutscene
>At the end of it the flash card for peace goes out - the end

Sorry to burst your bubble man but if the fact that all the cutscenes in the game were shown pre-release in the trailers, and they put kingdom of the flies on the collector's bluray, doesn't clue you in that there's really nothing more I don't know what will.

I just hope you don't spend too much time on this hoping for something you'll never get.

That reminds me, did they ever fixed the stuttering issue? I remember there was a problem with the xboner version where the game would randomly hitch and lock up for a bit. Happened at the worst times and made me furious.

Should've never been ported to the Xbox one at all. Wouldn't have had to buy the game, then.
>>
>>344252684
Because the PS3/360 versions can barely handle the game as it is.
>>
>>344261165
I don't know if it was ever fixed, but I ran into it a few dozen times. It took til my first mission in Africa for me to run into the bug, though. And yeah, it usually happened at the worst times, and took control away from you.

I also found that the Xbox One version has issues with the record feature, where the game would stutter after saving a clip. It also didn't like the multitasking features, because I remember MGO crashing a few times because I went to another app for a bit.

I can't do it. When I load up the game on occasion all I do is listen to the truth tapes and my favorite tracks and check some shit before going out. MGS has always appealed to me through story first, MGSV is a good game and I had a lot of fun with it but I just can't play anymore for objectives that don't feed me story.

I replay the series every year for the story first, love the gameplay too but that's just the biggest appeal IMO. With V it's a one time deal, who the hell is gonna replay the open world game with all those unlockables just to see a story? There is no point.

MGS2 and 3 can be beaten in 10 hours and it doesn't take much, V has 120 hours of content but there's little replay value. It honestly needs a NG+ or some shit, I cannot be fucked to replay missions but here I go on MGS2 for the 100th time.

Just deleted my save, downloaded a mod to unlock all the items, and make GMP gains triple, and gave myeslf all the buddies from the start. Added a lot more armored enemies so i force myself to stealth more and desu, i'm having a great time the 2nd go around. replying the game from scratch is a lot better than trying to replay each mission individually.

Being able to make my own guns from the start is a lot nicer too, i enjoy the operator feel from it.

I wish that this game was what it was acting to be in the trailers. Like I don't know if Kojima just wanted the game to seem "darker" or "edgier" but I actually wish that it was about venom becoming a true villain, it just doesn't feel like that in the actual game

Maybe i'm full of shit, but I always took these trailers as patriot/cipher propaganda, as in what we think we "know" about big boss, and venom isn't that.

The elegia trailer specifically gets called out a lot, but skullface's speech is just implying that change happens from every new set of people he meant, as big bosses visage changes, meaning everyone is interpreting him differently as they pass on this legend of who he is.

I don't know why people misinterpret that as big boss descending into a demon.

i own both the regular edition and an unopened collectors edition - my question is this - will the dlc vouchers for the cosmetic shit expire?

*some* vouchers ive noticed do indeed have expiration dates which is horse shit when you think about it - my brand new copy of far cry 4 from amazon had an expired "keys to kyrat" voucher and the other one it came with for the harpoon gun and fat guy co op bro were close to expiring too IIRC

tl;dr do i need to open that shit up and redeem my code or is it already too late
>>
>>344265804
That's really far reaching

The trailers were done because Kojima fashions himself as a cinema connoisseur and they are the closest he will ever be to a real director. There's no hidden meaning or anything in those trailers.
>>
>>344266006
It's genuinely hard to know for sure

but that's the whole point of the game, people hear shit about venom, and blame him for stuff he isn't even doing. The whole reason you're even fighting people in africa is because skullface tells everyone you're the cause of the parasite disease. The game is in 1984, it's not far fetched to believe that word of mouth and legends growing and being misconstrued is a part of these trailers, the whole trailer is about linguistics.

It's not about a hidden meaning, it's basic ass symbolism.

alright /v/ I've had a shitload of whiskey after coming off a 12 hour night shift and I am super fucked up but ima lay this down

mgsv was fine

it was disappointing compared to everything we were led to believe it would be, but that isn't the same as it being bad

the game showed us that big boss went off the deep end and did horrible shit to a person who was totally loyal to him, while showing us that this loyal person stayed true to the original values big boss espoused

the legend of the big boss we knew in 3 and PW died with venom

and solely blaming kojima for what happened is idiotic, because we *know* konami were partially responsible for the fucked up state of affairs that resulted in mgsv's ultimate state

this is the truth of things as far as I'm concerned, now I'm going to pass the fuck out

I have my own theory that the jeep ride was put together in the last minute and was originally going to be quite different.
Early in the game you'll hear soldiers mention the cave where Shalenathropus is in, and how that cave is connected to the mountains, AKA OKB Zero.
The cuck also tells you that OKB Zero is a laboratory, and then Ocelot tells you to go to the silo, this silo.

Also, the elevator you go with Skullface in, can go downward too, there's a black void in there, and right before the elevator, there's this jeep.

I think the original plan was that you would get in that jeep, get in the elevator, which is big enough for one car, and you'll go to the actual laboratory part, and he would just show you all the shit they've been doing, probably a lot of Shaleanthropuses since he does say
>''My metal gears shall be the thread...''
bla bla bla.

And then you'll end up in the Sahelanthropus cave exit.
At least, I think that's what was going to happen.

I did play the older ones, what I found were awkward cameras, horrible controls, unending cutscenes, cringeworthy dialogue, and i'm impressed with the fact that every single character in this franchise is a walking cliche.
Then I went in with MGS2 which tried too hard at being ''le mindfuck'', introduced a gigantic fucking faggot, and then according to the internet i'm supposed to understand that this is some post-modern shit.
Then MGS3 dropped the few depth previous games had to give me constant history lessons, the biggest Mary Sue ever, and an ending that tried way too hard at making me cry.
And of course, MGS4 which butchered everything the other games tried to build.
Peace Walker was a Monster Hunter grindfest, and I gave up because the PSP's controls are completely awful, plus the bosses were just bullet spunges where the only challenge was not running out of bullets and markers to ask for ammo.
Then something about The Sue being in a pod, Snake for some reason getting autismal about it, and a 10 year old being a spy for the illuminati, lead by the guy who told me I should carry a Snake-shaped gun to my missions.

MGSV had an awful story, but I was ready for that after playing what I did, and i'm glad it turned out to be Mercenaries 3 rather than another MGS.

So the only MG game you liked was V, which was the biggest departure from the series and its core themes.

You're basically admitting you like mindless AAA games. Thanks for exposing your dumb ass to me though, I have a few more excellent recommendations for you in return, Far Cry, Mad Max and Assassins Creed are all stellar 10/10 you will enjoy, they are right up your alley and taste in video games.
>>
>Infiltrate Skullface's base silently
>Deploy Tank
>Obliterate the whole base in record time
>rank S
Game is fine.
>>
>>344273087
Yes, I think Iit's that.
The only MGS I like is V because it's not an MGS game.

>Far Cry, Mad Max and Assassins Creed are all stellar 10/10 you will enjoy
No, actually I tried those.
Fun thing about Assassins Creed, I bought 4 because everyone here was saying it was the best, and I dropped it like 2 hours in because the controls were absolutely horrible.
>>
>>344273087
>mindless AAA games
So, MGS?
>>
>>344273191
You were too casual for an Assassins Creed game?
That's astounding, even children can beat those games.
>>
>>344273191
Heh, at least you're honest.

I just dont get wanting to play a MGS themed AAA game and not actually liking the core series.

I thoroughly enjoyed 1 to 4 including PW yet I hated V, we are essentially opposites.
>>
>>344273289
No, it's not that it was hard.

>try to get in the boat and take the wheel
>for some reason the guy gets on top of a canon
>try to get in the wheel
>for some reason he climbs on top of it

The controls are completely fucked.

I think MGS5 is the best game I've played in years.

It has it's faults, namely all the scrolling through menu's to call in helicopters and the constant waiting for upgrades to complete etc, it gets tedious. Mother Base was a let down also. It should be smaller and much more aesthetically customisable. It's just a huge expanse of boring nothingness that you don't want to explore or particularly care about expanding except for the increased number of staff you gain.

But the gameplay is just great, especially compared to the previous ones. The missions are pretty repetitive I guess but I never really minded that. I really felt like I had freedom, something rare in games, even though they all claim to give you choices.

For me, I just love sneaking around the base, putting C4 on all the communications equipment, then blowing it all up at once and tranquilsing them all one by one as they run around looking for you. It never gets old.

The story was shite though. I have the feeling Kojima wanted to dispense a few too many red pills this time so they canned him and cut alot of stuff out, that's what it feels like.
>>
>>344273417
No, in all honesty you just sound fucking retarded.
I'm not trying to defend Assassins Creed here but you were apparently too retarded to follow the on screen button prompt that flashes up every time you even get near a ship's wheel.
>>
Just finished chapter 1. Pretty fun.

Kinda pissed that it's making me do earlier missions but with stupid restrictions.
>>
>>344273559
The missions which are just the same ones as before but with different difficulty are optional, you do not have to complete them.
Just go do some side op, and they'll call you in to do the next actual main mission.
In the mission list, all the missions that have a white dot instead of a yellow one, are optional.
>>
>>344273559
you don't have to do those repeat missions to progress.
though you will soon come to realize they're the most fun you'll have in the game.

The game was pretty damn fun, I enjoyed it a lot but there was some room for improvement but the free roam, motherbase, buddies and weapons were damn fun to use.

I like to think that you repeat missions on harder difficulty because Venom starts to misremember them because of the sharpnel.

to me, it doesn't look like e3 2013, it just makes it look blurry.
there's an extended extra high settings mod that looks pretty good, have you tried that?

ive never played any metal gear game. can i just jump into phantom pain or are the other games mandatory for understanding the story?
>>
>>344275531
play them in story order if you care about the story.
portable ops, mgs3, peace walker, mgs1, phantom pain, 2 and then 4.

if not then just play tpp

The blur comes from the depth of field and motion blur in-game.
If you have them turned off, it won't happen, I just turn it on for screenshots.

Nope, but there's not much story in MGSV anyway.

And yes, I tried the extra high settings, but pretty much the only thing it does is increase draw distance.

>>344275728
That's why so many people say it's a bad game.
Gameplay wise, it's basically a more militaristic Mercenaries game.
Best operator simulator unless you are willing to give in to autism and try ArmA 3.

This. Been saying it for months, it's very effective. What people wanted was a Darth Vader shouting "NOOOOOOOO" moment for Big Boss. I'm pretty glad they didn't go that way.

The concept is brilliant, you only have to look at how betrayed people here feel about it to see that. Being personally betrayed by the main character of a game is genuinely "something that can only happen in video games" I don't think there's anyway you can argue that it isn't a succinct and effective way of demonstrating Big Boss' downfall.

But the execution feels so rushed that people misplace that sense of betrayal in Kojima/Konami rather than viewing it as a narrative aspect. If the last mission hadn't literally been the tutorial I think people would recognize that.
>>
I still play a mission or two here and there, slowly going for 100%. MGO is garbage, though.
