He doesn't do any of that, the game and manual clearly explain that Dedede was seen in the Dream Spring, Kirby angrily goes and asks Dedede if he stole the star rod, Dedede vaguely confirms "Yeah, I broke it up and gave each piece to one of my friends"
Then Kirby goes and takes them from each of Dedede's friends, while defeating all of Dedede's forces that stood in his way. Kirby had no reason to think Dedede had good intentions, he'd been nothing but a selfish thoughtless cock up until then.
Squak Squad is Baby Kirby. "Oh no my cake is gone! Dedede must have done it despite having no evidence to support that!" before he goes and kills people without any good reason, and for purely selfish reasons, is a lot fucking dumber than how he is in Kirby's Adventure.

The thing he is is a lot less cartoony or exaggerated and less things are played as a gag. He'll be grounded on one look/face and there's only a few expressions you can make without totally changing his features. Yea there is also a bit of sterilization, probably for marketing purposes, but it isn't tied to his projected age, the only baby stuff is the anime. All it is is they've been a lot less keen to throw him off character, he's now a protected IP with an entire company dedicated to make sure he's portrayed properly (warp Star Inc.), so they established how it should be and keep it that way.

I'd imagine that there would be a switch mechanic, where depending on each part of the level you can switch characters to progress foward. For water based sections and puzzles, you play as Starfy, while for land based sections and puzzles, you can switch to Kirby.
Even if there was co-op built in, Kirby could be given a special submarine to traverse with at sea, while Starfy can access his costumes and transformations from DnS1-5 to be alongside Kirby in the land. But if I must say something, I'll say that reaching very well describes it, we're talking about generic childish and clumsy behavior here, the line between baby and child isn't very clear cut, and the two behaviors aren't mutually exclusive. I do agree there have been changes to his character and portrayal over time, definetly, but I think its silly and trivial to instinuate that those changes include a younger or even baby like attitude, when his actions haven't changed much, and for one time that kirby bumped into bandana dee there's countless times he was a goddamn adult and countless times he was a silly klutz, both back then and nowadays
If they wanted him any younger they wouldn't put him in the same situations and plots they've always put him in, even if he looks more modern he still does the same shit, the one exception is Mass Attack which deliberately portrayed younger kirbies who have to be bossed around to show his loss of power

Personally I feel like HAL might be trying to pull a bit of a mario with kirby, to make a character that appeals to everyone they make no character at all. Luckily I don't thinl HAL is anywhere near as bad as nintendo with their "MARIO MUST HAVE NOTHING THAT COULD BE CONSIDERED A PERSONALITY" but I kinda fear they're trying that more. I really love his expressions in crystal shards, say what you want that game oozes personality and charm. This is probably my favorite moment in a lirby game, it's just too cute and sweet.
