Yes AIs tend to have different skills (some already ingrained into them while 4 that you're allowed to choose for them from a list of unlockables). These skills sometimes dictate how their AI behaves like what you said of Gina or how Kanon is much more likely to shoot at friendlies because she has an anti friendly fire skill in the negatives.
In terms of survivability, they're pretty decent but I'm only in difficulty 7 missions so I don't know if they die like crazy in end game missions.

Plot wise, Aragami can rip through just about anything so wearing heavy armor is pointless. They're basically allowed to wear whatever they want as long as it's light and easy to move around in. This allows them to relegate defence into a single piece of equipment and allows players to fully customise how they look without having to worry about armor checks getting in the way.

What I do is enter rooms and exit them if I see they're too ahead of me. It's quick enough but don't try doing any difficulty that has a lot of cutscene locked missions online (like difficulty 5 which has you going back and forth from the lab for a cutscene to the mission accept desk).

Playing online has its benefits since most players have their own gear they bring so you're not stuck with the AI all the time. Sometimes a higher ranked guy will join and help you steam roll through whatever difficulty you're currently on.

Short Blade hits fast and has a lot of cancel tech that lets you act out of a lot of actions. Good if you wanna go fast.
Long Blade has average attack speed but allows for infinite combos through a stance you can cancel into that restores stamina. You can also enter another stance from it that lets you shoot while still in blade form.
Buster Blades are huge and have slow attack speed but hit hard. The bid draw is that they allow you to deploy tower shields, which have the longest deployment time but block all damage, as fast as bucklers. They also have a heavy hitting charge attack and a parry.
Hammers are just as strong as Buster Blades but have no range so you gotta get up close. They have a rocket boost attached to them that allow you to keep swinging as long as you have the stamina.
Spears allow you to charge them and dash towards an enemy. As long as the spear is charged you deal more damage as long as the combo keeps going. You can keep the charge up by chaining back flips and dive attacks into combos
Scythes have the best range through their special move and let you hit multiple body parts. Also relatively fast.

They added Lenka parts you can use for male characters in GER. They aren't even numbered like the rest, they're straight-up called Lenka.
