Well, your first mistake is assuming that performance is the only difference.
• There are PC-exclusive games. Some entire genres are nearly all exclusive to PC. You probably don't like those genres; I don't either, to be honest. But these are opinions. The neat thing about opinions is that some people have opinions which contradict yours. People who like these games have a reason to buy a PC which has nothing to do with performance.
• You can't use a keyboard and mouse with a console. Entire genres which do exist on consoles are instantly better with these controls. If you want to play games which are better with a gamepad, you can plug a gamepad into your PC.

My rig is going on 9 years old. There is no upgrading. Everything except maybe the case needs to be replaced if I want to play anything from like 2012 and up. I simply don't have the kind of dosh to cover the start up cost and be able to afford bills/food/rent.
I really could care less if my multi-plats ran/looked better on a PC, because they're good enough on the console, and "good enough" was what I decided to settle for this gen.

PCs have a wider range of functions than consoles, and everything but the GPU and monitor are standard PC components everyone but the tech-illiterate will want anyways.
Comparing just the cost of a GPU and a good monitor, a PC gaming setup comes out more expensive but justifiably so due to the performance increase.

It's noticeable, but the retards on /v/ actually load Steam onto their SSDs. Any game that constantly saves information (like World of Warcraft) is going to give them a hard time.
Also SSDs are almost fraudulent for how much they cost vs how much they actually perform. Then again, the same could be said about the "budget" versions of graphics cards. Buying top tier versions of past graphics cards is a wiser investment.
