At launch the only DLC available was cosmetics. The game launched with 3 heroes per class (for 12 heroes) and 3 monsters.
A few months after launch they released a free update and map pack as well as an expansion pack with 4 hunters and a monster.
A few months after that they released another free update/map pack and another expansion pack of 4 hunters and 1 monster (staggered release this time)

The original plan for Evolve was to make money mainly on the DLC content. Selling expansion packs to users.
This requires a high DAU (daily active users), as you can't sell content to people not using your platform.
They fucked up the balance hard and so their DAU tanked early, and they can't effectively monetize such a small base.
So they're making the game F2P in order to rebuilt the player base in the hopes of selling content to that new base in the future.

This was the big issue, and it's hard to pin down exactly where the fault lies. If I had to guess I'd say it was a combination of a faulty balancing strategy (pub statistics are not useful, they will bell curve in almost any situation unless something is so incredibly strong or weak that no one could make it work in any situation) and mismatched publisher priorities (pushing devs to work on new content instead of balancing what's there)

Coming from a retard that bought this game a year ago on Xbone and spent 500 hours into this game, I have to say, they improved.
Finally made the switch to PC and now that it's free, while a slap in the face, they did do a 180. The currency system is good, the perks work, the balancing is finally complete. Over all I like where the game is at. Sure it's the butt of the gaming community's jokes, but it is enjoyable.
I'm just waiting for the dust to settle and we see how much of the play boon stays.

Wraith was well known as one of the most broken, OP monsters in the entire game, who never lost to pug hunters and only rarely to premades.
Whether thats changed with the f2p release...I dunno.
I did a few matches, I have founder but never bought any of their DLC. Every single match has been against a meteor goliath (I refuse to play monster since I've never done it and would rather not have my ass handed to me). And usually its a loss because of newbie teammates.
Also I fucking love emet as a character but playing him feels awkward. I have yet to find any character that really clicks with me. Doesn't help that I'm a friendless loser solo player.

Hard to tell, I got absolutely rekt by a guy with the Behemoth monster but other than that hunter has been extremely easy. Right now all the monster players are incredibly new, no idea where buffs are, no idea what the farming patterns are, etc, etc. I think I've seen one guy go stage 3 so far, and that's it.
I wouldn't make any big judgements on balance for a week or so.

It's not exactly an FPS where accuracy is paramount, so I'd rather play without cheaters than with more accurate controls.

I only paid the beta. I love the concept, but the execution was fucking awful. I liken it to Max Payne 3's "Payne Killer" mode. The first person to get a kill would be Max and the second guy would be Pasos. I was a golden got in that game mode. Constantly slinging barbs at the guys looking to kill me. I don't know how to feel about this update. The game is massively different. Everything is bright, no weather effects, no bushes anywhere.
The balance is totally different, I don't know if this is a good thing.
Graphics look shittier now, that's for sure. It's not UGLY but its definitively a downgrade. Character selection doesn't have their idle animations anymore.
It's a downgrade overall.

I'll agree that the new trapper ability if kind of jank shit, even though it only gives a general direction and you can easily hide away from it, but giving the dome ability to the entire team is a fucking god send with horrible match ups while also allowing splitting up to be a good tactic. Nah, not interested. It was a failure as a paid game, its going to fail as a free game aswell. Had the done this a year ago and admit their fuckups and their 72player playerbase, people might have cared.

So is Wraith worthless without it's invis? I'm thinking of getting it or Gorgon, but I'm not really sure how Gorgon's skillset would work with how the game is right now. Thinking about it now I guess Wraith would be in a weird place too since anyone you grab will be able to just dome you right there, playing as a kind of ambush character with Planetary Tracking in the game doesn't seem great either.

Used to be only the trapper could use dome, and yes the game is currently heavily stacked in favor of hunters.
I have been winning just about every game as monster though due to how new most hunters are. I deliberately let them dome me as Wraith and spent the entire 5 minutes sneaking around harassing them with the decoy. They couldn't find me. It was pretty fucking hilarious.

Any monster is beatable with good team but if Monster is Wraith and good too it wins. No excuses.
If you beat Wraith it just means the guy was literally shit and you could win him as any Monster.

Literally all you have to do is get to lvl 2, then wait for hunter to come by, stealth pounce, slap all your abilities except abduction at once and watch their entire team flail around and die.
On that note, abduction is pretty shit in this version of the game where anyone can dome. I suggest only getting 1 point to chase the last guy down because he'll try to run.
